Hi everyone. Does anyone know what company the number 866-304-0566 belongs to. Someone keeps calling me (has even gotten a cell phone number that I have only given to family and friends) and telling me that I owe a debt of over $16,000 and that the original creditor is treatening me with breach of contract. I explained that I don't remember having a debt in that amount and asked who the original creditor is and was told that she does not know exactly...she said that it could have been on an old mastercard account(I've never had a credit card with that high of a limit!!!) The thing that bothered me is that she wanted me to verify my social security number. I refused because I figured if she doesn't even know what account she's collecting on then she certainly isn't going to get me to verify my ss#. I'm not sure what all of this means. What can happen if I get sued for breach of contract? I live in a state where wage garnishment is illegal. Plus, I would like to find a way to have them verify the debt without having to give them my ss# but I'm not exactly sure where they are calling from. They didn't answere that question when I asked. Any thoughts or suggestions?

eleroo - sounds WAY to suspicious to me. It sounds like a company trying to get personal information out of you. If it were me (just me personally) I wouldn't accept their calls any more. #1. They don't know what debt their collecting #2. They want you to verify your social security number. And company collecting a valid debt would know WHAT they are collecting and they would already have your social security number. Don't sweat this one. It sounds like a scam. But, as I stated, just my opinion. I would not answer that call again.

I googled that number and this is what I found:

The name FRS is Financial Recovery Services. They practice in buying old charged off debts and trying to collect on them. These people are utterly ridiculous and trying to collect on debt that is not valid or cannot be reported on your credit report any longer although they claim they are looking at the credit report and see the debt on the report, they are in fact full of it. Don't give in to these people, they are scumbags.

I haven't deal with them, this is just what someone said about the number. Hope that helps!

Thank you, this does help. I start freaking out when people talk about breach of contract, etc. I am going to pull a credit report and make sure that nothing is being reported. I really, really don't remember ever having a debt unpaid in that amount. I have had four calls from these people today! They actually left 2 voice mails AFTER they tried to get my ss#. Isn't this illegal?

The person you were talking to probably doesn't even know what breach of contract means. From first contact they have 5 days to send it to you in writing, and it must list the original creditor. It's likely that they have the wrong person, or, purchased some old debt on which the statute of limitations has run long ago. Send them a partial cease communications letter (return reciept) stating that you'll only deal with them in writing.

hi--

So far, this is the address I have found:

Financial Recovery Services
4640 West 77th Street
Suite 300
Edina, MN 55435

The best thing you can do is send them a letter, via certified mail return receipt requested. Make sure to send it certified mail RRR, so you can prove that they got it.

In this letter, you need to state two things.

1--You request that, in accordance with the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act, they provide you with proper validation of this debt. AT NO TIME should you say or write anything to this company that could even suggest that you owe this debt. Inform them that in accordance with Section 809(b) of the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act, if they fail to provide proper validation of this debt, they are prohibited from any further collection attempts against you.

2--You hereby request that they immediately cease any and all communication with you except for communication by US Mail. Upon receipt of this letter, they are to immediately cease all telephone communication attempts with you, including but not limited to predictive dialers. Inform them that any further attempts to contact you by telephone in this matter will be met with legal action, as that would constitute a direct violation of Section 805(c) of the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act.

For your own information, if they violate the fdcpa against you, you can then sue them for up to $1000 per violation plus actual damages.

Dont worry about your SSN, you dont have to give out such information when you send this letter. At the bottom of this letter, you will want to list your name, address, and telephone numbers, but nothing more, and DO NOT SIGN IT. Companies like these have been known to forge your signature on fake documents if you provide them with it.

If you need a more exact example of this letter, let me know and I will post up what I use.

skydvr, thanks for the great information. And, you too, lawstudent. I'm just reading this post to get informed and have learned something! Your advice to the person who posted, I'm sure, will be useful to others as well. At least I feel more informed by your information. Thanks for the well researched, well defined response to this post.

Thank you all very much for the information. I am going to send the letters today via certified return receipt mail. It really bothered me that they continued to call. They called all day up until about 8:30 pm last night. Boy, when they latch on,they really sink their teeth in! I'll keep you posted on anything that happens with them. I definitely think it was not within guidelines for them to call so much and to ask for my ss#. I would hate to think what they would do with that information.

They called only once a day...at work (they were persisent but I would not consider their calls harrassment). They were polite each time, never got rude with me but always tried to get me to make a lump sum payment (which at the time, I just could not afford). I verbally asked for validation once, and the woman I was speaking with acted like she had never heard the word before. I ended up just giving up on the validation thing. I knew about the debt and what I actually owed and FRS was sending me letters stating who the creditor was with the balance due so I wasn't concerned about illegitimate collection efforts. In the end, I finally set up arrangments with a guy named (no I am not kidding) Chico Martinez. I paid a lesser amount ($3200 and some change) in 4 equal payments over 4 months.

FRS was not that bad to work with. At least they didn't call me a deadbeat or some of the other names I read on this site. That was a blessing.

Well it is good to know that they have polite people there. They haven't been impolite with me, just calling constantly yesterday (haven't heard from them today). Also, they couldn't tell me who the original creditor is. I haven't received written correspondence from them yet, but I will be looking for it. I am very interested in knowing what they are collecting on.

In response to skydivr7673's post above from 7/17/2007, FRS has a new mailing address. You should send any inquiries or Cease and Desist Letters to:

Financial Recovery Services, Inc.

Edina, MN 55435

Phone: (952)-831-4800
Fax: (952) 831-6700

They keep calling me and giving a recorded message for Sue Bunch and Tracy Bunch, they don't seem to worry about their privacy rights, and don't seem to care to find them. They have been doing this for three years now, and I finally found out who they were. They just send these recorded calls for no reason. They certainly have a track record for idiocy.

I just got a call from this number saying they are trying to collect on an old account I had! The girl went on to say she has my credit report in front of her and that her job is to collect on the the accounts that are outstanding! Funny thing is that account she was trying to collect on was paid off in a bankruptcy! So I know she was lieing! Now my cell number is private and when I asked how they got my number she avoided the question. She started to get rude on the phone as well and I yelled back at her. She went into another speech and I hung up on her. Funny how when around the holidays these people come poking around!
