Someone took my identity!

Download the ID theft affadavit, have it notorized and send it along with the police report to Direct TV.

It was collections, I have spoken to both of them though. I cannot believe this happened - all the way across country, too!

The police report should be enough for a CA. They don't get a choice in the matter. They have to accept it. Are they reporting on your CR's?

I pulled a report in August and there was nothing unusual. do you think it's too soon to pull it again? or should I wait a month or so for it to hit?

I would. You are allowed to pull reports if you are a victim of IDT.

Thanks again for everyone's help.. the collectors called again today but it seems like i have spoken to someone better at direct tv, they said they filed a fraud ticket for me and i ordered a copy of the police report.

do not speak to the collector until you get the police report.then you can deal with them better.

thanks - i don't plan on ever speaking to them again, i actually blocked them. i dont get why they keep calling a NJ number for someone who they think lives in AZ!! it's still so crazy to me, i called the company direct and they said the collectors should stop calling, but i doubt it so i ended up blocking them.

i cannot even believe this but this is still going on! the collectors keep calling, the police didn't send out the report yet (i went again yesterday and they promised they will mail it again!) it is so crazy, it is like nobody even cares

Bea Have you located a physical address/and or fax number for the collection agency and send them a C&D? If they continue to call after that you have grounds for a lawsuit. Acutally you should have grounds for a lawsuit now, but i'd hold off until the C&D letter was sent.

I would wait until you have a copy of the police report, the ID theft affidavit, and make sure you send copies of both along with the cease and desist letter to the debt collectors. You should also make sure when you send it to send it with receipt confirmation requested so that you have proof that the debt collectors got the information and there is no more excuse for their calls. Until then, I say blocking the calls or using your voicemail to screen calls is likely the best option.

they still call. i sent everything out but never recieved the green card as proof of their payment. i am going to have to resend it i guess. needless to say i never recieved anything in writing from them, likely because they send it to AZ!!

i ended up recieving green reciept.. this happened to me with another company, too (never recieved it) maybe my mail is that slow? anyway, they are still calling and i am really thinking of taking legal action.

this has been straightened out. as always this board was great. the three credit bureau have copies of my police report and my report was flagged and direct tv finally realized it's not me (obviously!)
