Puzzling email from Sonic Payday

I am having similar experiences with Sonic Payday as have been described on this site. I couldn't pay back the loan on 10/15, Sonic said they would not accept payments, I have made two partial payments to date but still owe a lot with the extra charges they've added on. I have been threatened with a wage assignment. Then, today I received the following email from Sonic which appears to be one of those computer generated emails:

Did you know that you are already approved for $400 until your next payday?

Since you've repaid your last loan with SonicPayday.com, getting the cash you need is simpler than you think!

You can log on to request your next loan online at sonicpayday.com. Once your loan is approved, your funds should be in your account the very next business day!
It's that simple.

And don't forget, you can check your loan status by visiting

Does anyone have any idea what this means? Has Sonic sold my loan to a collection agency or something? Has anyone else had this happen?

Thanks,

PJS

Welcome to the forums. Last time I checked, they had their own collection company called E-Care. They're all in the same office complex/call center.

However, I too received that email. It's sent out in mass loads to everyone who has applied.

I would advise not to take out another loan with this company (or any other for that matter) unless it is an extreme emergency and there are no other routes to take. The interest rates are too high.

Mike

Yes, I have had to deal with them. I have taken out 4 loans with them. The first one didn't go over to well, as they attempted to get their money back at 6AM, before my direct deposit went through. My last one was all my fault, and I attempted to make repayment. Yolanda Williams was who I was dealing with before. She said that because I defaulted, the only repayment method was through Western Union.

Lets now go to the new week. I said I was going to make repayment, but because I defaulted I got charged their $29 fee, making it unpayable the first week. But on my payday, they attempted to get the money back. I had already written checks....thus causing another NSF for my account. (They had only gotten their first 1/2 of the money).

This had created a lot of problems, and therefor I just changed my account number. They didn't add on any more NSF fees, or haven't charged me interest. But it did take me a month before I finally decided to repay them.

There is just too many pages in this forum to read. The call center is based out of Winnipeg, Manitoba....

Basically PLR Direct, Sonic Payday, E-Care, Cash Today Transfers...they're all the same company.

Mike

mike -Thanks for the reply

I was reading some of your posts about your experience. Sounds like you did a good job, and I can't understand why they wouldn't give you a correct address.

I am beginning to think that closing the account/changing the number is the best way to go, although I did fax a wage assignment revocation - not really even sure if wage garnishment is legal in Texas - but thought I should cover my bases.

It's frustrating to me that when you are proactive in trying to pay the debt you owe, these companies are less than willing to work out pay arrangements!

Did they accept partial payment? Or ever allow another method beyond Western Union?

Did they make you print out the wage assignment paper, so you could sign it and fax it back?

Just a little heads up on wage assignments...they have to be signed in person, and have a witness.

They will not accept payment arrangements. However, if you close your account and call back when you have the money, you can get the address to mail in a payment. They may want it sent via Western Union, but its totally up to...and how bad they want their money back.

My first time when I had a run-in with them, I told them I would NOT do a Western Union payment. Luckily they ran the payment through again.

I also kept A LOT of notes on each person I talked with.

Mike

I did some search on the wage assignment procedure in Texas and it appeared that it is legal here.

I wish you to go through the article placed below and know the legal documentation required in wage assignment. As you have said that the script was computer generated, it should not be legal.

I have done some research, and as I understand wage assignments are voluntary. This was not a seperate sheet of paper, nor signed in person. When I try to view the wage assignment that is posted in documents on my account with PRL, it's all garbled.
None-the-less I have faxed a wage assingment revocation letter to them, they would not give me an address to where I could send certified mail. I'm a little nervous as to whether the faxed copy will hold up - so I gave my HR department a copy of it as well.

Okay I've been reading a lot of stuff about the wage assigments. I'm assuming I need to notify my employer can I just do a blanket. As of July 13, 2006 I revoke all wage assignments or something like that. I don't really want my job knowing that I had 7 internet loans out you know but if I have to I will. I will send individual copies to the places but should I wait. I don't want to give them any ideas. Will the PDL tell you they are going to do one. I just defaulted on some of them 2 weeks ago.

quittrain - I would imagine any competent payroll clerk would question this and contract you to verify.

But unfortunatly some have reported that their payroll depts were honoring the voluntary wage assignments so you may want to take a proactive course because Sonic will contact them. They are the worst.

Stress to your payroll dept that the matter is to be kept confidental ( i.e. you supervisors and co-workers are not to be informed ). Most payroll depts value their professionalism and your company does not want any law suites so you should be safe.

Follow the guidlines posted here for revoking an assignment and I would tell you payroll dept as little as possible after that.

Something like you are disputing a debt with Sonic and all requests from them are to be ignored and all contact between Sonic and your company is to be terminated immediatly.
