I have a open loan with Plain Green and I have paid bi-weekly payments of $126.74. My financial situation has changed and I can't afford paying that much every other week so I called them and asked if we could work out a more suitable payment plan and they said flat out no. At this point what are my options? Are these loans even legal in Michigan? Thanks

I discussed that with the person at my bank and was assured that even if they were to do that, that I would be able to file the charges as fraudulent and they would remove them. I was also worried about that! Thanks!

I hope that you are right concerning not closing your bank account. Sometimes the lender may change name slightly and also change the amount slightly so as to still get money from you. I would rethink about closing your account.

@tousi76

Looking on the FLOFR site to file a complaint, it says I need info that I may not have access to anymore since I am unable to access my account on Plain Green. Any advice?

@paulmergel Thanks!

I got an email from them after one of the initial times I emailed and it said "The request to update your account information has been completed.", but it does not say exactly WHAT they did, and now I can't log-in to my account?! I have tried the forgot my password link three times and each time I never get the email to reset it.

Just further cementing the thought in my brain that they're some shady people!

I will post an update as soon as I receive one!

let me set you straight here.

1)because they are tribal they have no recourse,but to call,and theaten things they can't do.
2)you can tell them to drop dead as again tribal=illegal.

here's the deal since they are tribal.nobody but a member of the tribe can contact you,and no tribal business can be conducted outside of tribal ground.i know the wastes of life contacting you are not tribal members so file AG,AND FTC complaints and ignore any emails,or calls that threaten as again they can't do dick except to threaten illegaly.keep us posted for their stupid responses.

I contacted them again via email and sent them one of the letters from the link provided by SOAPLADY and hopefully I'll hear from them soon... with something other than drop dead!

Hi, I'm in Florida and I have a loan with Plain Green. The original amount was $600 and I've been making payments since 9/12/2014 for a total of $806.76 so far. I have two payments left, January and February.

I recently read that because they are not licensed in Florida, that their loans are essentially illegal here. I called the customer service line and was told that I was misinformed and that because they are part of a tribe, I have no recourse.

I have been reading all kinds of different information and some of it is conflicting. I found this link online and just wanted to find out one way or another if I should push harder with them.

Apologies if I have posted this in an incorrect area, or if there is info on this site about this lender somewhere else. I was not able to find it :-/

TIA

Since you live in FL file a complaint with the Florida Office of Financial Regulation. you can file a complaint with the ATT Gen but they will just direct you the FOFR. I went through this in FL and I can tell you that there is nothing these creeps can do except call and threaten you. After awhile they will send to collections, once they do that send the collections agency debt validation letters and cease and desists orders while at the same time filing complaints against them as well with the FOFR because not only are the loans illegal without a license so are any attempts to collected on an unlicensed loan in FL.

I did. I used the letter from SOAPLADY's post that has the refund request. So far, I haven't received anything else from them. It's only Monday though, so who knows LOL! Thanks again for the responses. So glad I found this site. I hope I'm never desperate enough to ever have to do this kind of bullshit again!

**UPDATE**
Contacted NFCU (my bank) and they put stop payments on my loan amount and the lender in general. They are amazing and have a very vigilant fraud department so at least my mind is at ease that if these A*holes do try to take any more from me that they will be blocked and I don't have to close my account. YAY!

once illegal bullshit realizes you are not going to let them have more money via ACH debit.they lock you out of your account.that's a good sign,but they will still send stupid emails,and will call lying about their legality,and the fact that you owe them a huge amount.so cool,and yes let us know when they send an insulting email.

I received a letter in the mail today from these losers...

In a letter dated 01/09/2015 (when I sent my original email), Plain Green writes...

"Dear Ms. Smith,

We are sorry you are not satisfied with your Plain Green Loan. While we cannot void your loan agreement, we have made the decision to reduce your balance to zero and close your account."

Blah blah blah blah, about your questions regarding the legality we are organized under the tribe blah blah blah blah, shut up!

I WIN!! Thank you so much to everyone who has helped me on here. I would have been out another $400 if it weren't for you lot.

Now, if they send me that refund of my over-payment, this victory will be platinum! Thanks again everyone!

Please register with the forums.
Plain Green loans are illegal due to being tribal - online lenders must be licensed to lend in Michigan - I am sure they are not but you can check here to see, I am sure they will have a website - Michigan Office of Financial and Insurance Services
follow this link on how to deal with - http://www.debtconsolidationcare.com/paydayloan/dealingwith-illegallenders.html - you will want to make sure your bank account is secure from them continuing to tap into. How much did you originally borrow and how much repaid. You are only obligated to repay principal only minus all already paid. if you can give me the above info then I can help you more.
