Rebatesoft charged my bank account. How do they get my account info?

Just wanted to let you all know that there are charges popping up on people's accounts all over the US for $7.50 from a company called Rebatesoft. All you have to do is dispute it with your bank and cancel your ATM/DEBIT card #. I Google this and many hits came up with the same charge as mine and same company listed. I didn't know where to post this and so I started here, if you need to move it that's fine. I just wanted the word to be out

Rebatesoft seems to me as a company dealing with software.

Yeah, I found a $7.50 charge on my check card too and I called my bank, they think my card has been compromised so they closed the account and issued me a refund. I'm still not sure how they got my info though. Scary out there in the cyber world, should only shop at reputable websites.

yes, I got hit on nov. 9 2008, $7.50 charge. also got hit for some international charges CCBILLEU.COM +18885969 VALETTA MLT and CCBill.com 888-5969279 AZ soon after. this rebatesoft charge could be a test billing site to make sure the card is valid which leads to the sale of our credit card number. folks gotta test drive the card before they really smack it with the bigger charges. credit card was cancelled and I have to send in an afadavit to the card company. yikes. glad I have other cards or I would not be able to charge anything. my advice: don't set up autopays with credit cards because the cards get compromised too easily from shopping online and then you have to cancel all the autopays and possibly miss payments and deal with all that fallout.

WTF? Me too, I got hit twice for $7.50. I called my Bank and they suggested to cancel my card immediately. How did they get my info?

This hit my account today as a preauthorization. It was my debit card and I closed it immediately. Unbelievable and a big bummer. How do they get our stuff?

Rebatesoft billed my VISA 7.50 on November 19. After asking me if I had bought software, etc., VISA said they had no information about the charge but would cancel it. If they didn't know this was going on they should have.

I too had a rebatesoft charge back in November so I canceled my card# and started using a different card from a different bank. Last week I got a notification from this bank (Chase)of a possible fraud attempt. I didn't see the details of the charge but as I recall it was only a buck or two and I think it was listed as some type of subscription related to the New York Times.
Two fraudulent charges in two months on two different cards is too much of a coincidence for me. So either this is a massive CC attack, or someone I'm doing business with is selling my CC number (or is being hacked).

I got hit with the $7.50 charge also, I am disputing it with my card company but they are telling me there is a 45 day dispute period where they can contest it.

On 1-5-09, I also got charged $7.50 through my debit card from "RebateSoft 888-218-4395 MA". I called the number to question it and I just got an answering machine, so I left my name and number (probably not smart in hindsight). Then I searched online for "RebateSoft" and "888-218-4395" and found all of this disturbing info and more. I had to go to my bank today to dispute the charge, cancel my debit card, and order a new one.

Update- My wife just called as I'm writing this to tell me that her Capitol One credit card also got hit with the same charge from RebateSoft, and that card account was closed! Now she has to file a complaint online because the account is closed and try to get charges and fees removed. Way to go Capitol One!)

I just saw a charge on my debit account for the same $7.50 charge and this is an account I barely ever use. I have no idea where they would have gotten this info. I called and got some young girl and the message sounds almost unprofessional. I will too be cancelling my card. I should also note this charge was from 1/9 and we were in Florida on vacation and I live in Iowa and again have not used this card for quite a few months.

Add another person to the list.....I too called the number listed next to the $7.50 charge and go the answering machine with the voice of a young girl. I'll be calling and disputing the card soon, unfortunately, we have a corporate office out of state on business who needs the card and since it's Capital One, they will just freeze it (this type of thing has happened to us before) so it will have to wait until Thursday....

Looks like REBATESOFT is still at it, found charges on my card today and searched to find years worth of charges. Seems odd that they can keep running these fraudulent charges year after year!

Just wanted to let everybody know that my debit card recently got hit for $5.60 with the REBATESOFT scam, but praise God, I saw it before anything bigger hit. This is a different charge than I've seen reported elsewhere on the web.

The telephone number 888-218-4395 was listed with the charge, but I called and only got an answering machine. I left my name and number, which in hindsight was probably unwise. So be aware! Thanks for all the information - it helped me out!

We were online yesterday doing our banking and the same thing was there. $5.60 to rebatesoft. The 888 phone number has been disconnected. Now we need to go in to the bank to deal with this. I just don't like dishonest people!!!

I contacted rebatesoft.com and sent them an email after getting a $5.60 charge on my debit card that I did not authorize. I did recieve a response from someone named Andrew. He said that credit card payments are processed through some company named REGNOW.COM . I actually called them and they have never heard of REBATESOFT. This is all bogus and sad that REBATESOFT or whoever is taking advantage of innocent people! I say all of us contact the better business bureau and have them investigated and try to put a stop to this. They are making tons of money off of this! The better business bureau will investigate and hopefully SHUT down these people! I say everyone get on board and lets do all we can to stop this!

I, too had a charge on my credit card for $5.60 from rebatesoft. When I called the credit card company they said this was done over the internet. Doesn't the company posting the charge have to have the 3 digit # on the back of the card??Anyway the credit card company took the charge off with no hassle. Tells me something's fishy all around.

My Capital One card was charged 5.60 by Rebatesoft, I called the 888 # very unprofessional, young person on answering machine. Capital One is going to credit me back and dispute the charge while investigating it.
