[Donate]

I just recieved a phone call from Police Protection at 615-383-4260 and the person conducting the call asked if I would be interested in donating to the funds of the fallen officers families. I could either do a check by phone or charge it to a credit card. I told the gentleman very nicely that we can't afford to donate right now and he stated "Are that heartless that you can't donate $.50 and I said no, would you like to pay my bills for a month and then you would understand whi I can't afford to donate. He told me I was cold hearted and hung up. I don't feel I am cold hearted. Is it normal for a police organization call and request money and have the funds secured by check by phone or credit card. Or am I just reading to much into it with all the scams going on?

Tammy-you have got to call your local police department and tell the the name and number that called you asap-there are alot of scams going on in the name of other originazations. Someone not so savvy may fall for this and give them their bank info. Even if you have the money, never, give your bank or credit card info. Instead, tell them you are goin to hang up and call your local agency, and if it's legit, you will donate.Thank goodness you didn't give them your info!...Karen

According to our sheriffs department, they have had several complaints in regards to this. They stated that if they call again to inform the that I have been in contact with the sheriffs department and hang up. The dispatcher stated that this time of year is the worst for these types of calls. They will not ever get my info on the phone.

Thanks Tammy,

You made me aware of something like this. I wonder if any prestigious organization like the sheriffs will ever use this strategy to raise funds. Fund raisings are done publicly. They won't contact any individual secretly for this purpose. Secondly, donations can't be forced on others. You do that on free will!!!! Isn't it??

Hmm just checked the ph# out on super pages after getting the call, he was crazi enough to unblock his ph# & request if I were the lady of the house; I requested to take a message & he said I just told u who it was & requested my parents, which we are the adults & residents of this household & than he hung up when I said their not here. I went directly to Superpages.com & got the same info & than tried googles & saw this note, I beleive there is another ph# that appears to be:TLE; I'm originally from NY & terrible it's still people out there hapin on the deceased/traumatized people & their families. Thanks for the Heads up!

When I received any type of solicitation call, I refuse to even listen to them. I say, interrupting if necessary, "No, thank you, not interested" and don't wait for any answer and hang up immediately. I guess over the years I have had so many weirdos and and what have you call and annoy me, that I have become oblivious to them. Some might think I am rude, but it works for me.

Tammy, like you and others here I get so irritated by the people collecting on behalf of the benevolent sheriff's fund, etc. They know that people are likely to want to donate to police and firefighters as a way of showing gratitude.

lol LessIsMore, I love it. There is nothing wrong with being an honest telephone solicitor; as with most things it is the dishonest ones that give all a bad rep.

I take Lorri's approach. Just say No thanks and hang up.

less - recording a diconnected message is a very original and seemingly good idea.

Lorri- I do the same thing I say I am not interested and if they try to keep talking I hang up on them I have an unlisted number and I still get soliciatation calls. I got one a few months ago from sheriff department and they practically said the same thing when I told them I don't have any money. How do I get calls like that when I have an unlisted number I can see the sheriff department because I guess the county has everyone's phone number? Then I get calls about credit cards (the shopping ones) and I say no thank you I don't want it then they say will you signed up for it duh I still don't want it! I am not signing up for anything anymore on the internet - they get you every time!

Tammy, I just got the same call. The caller ID said Police Protection which I thought was strange as opposed to the county in which a police dept. office is located. Did a whitepages.com reverse # search and got M Nicklaus as well. Did a google search and found your question. Interesting. I don't know if it's legit. But I won't take the call again.

I got the same call. I'm on the TN state no call list also. I thought about letting them fine the phone# for violating that list.

Do not give money to these "police protection services"
I live in middle tn and recieve a phone call from 615-383-4260, every week. I answered the phone and said may i ask who is calling please, the man cursed "jesus christ" and hung up the phone. Beware of this scam!

We have been receiving calls from this number, but no one has been home to taken the call. They will not leave a message. I am glad I checked this out, I might have been one who would have donated.
Thanks

I just got the call as well. Same dude. Same number. The more I put him off the angrier his voice got. He said check out the website policeusa.com and quickly hung up. I am in East Tennessee. Gonna see who I need to contact to get this stopped.

I just received a call and added it to my "DO NOT ANSWER" list.
Each time someone like this calls me, I just add it to my list. DO NOT ANSWER(1,2,3,etc) is the "name" I give to calls that I NEVER want to answer again. So, now when caller ID on my cellphone displays DO NOT ANSWER... I just smile, and press the "IGNORE" button.

i just got a call last week from this sort of thing, it came up private name and private number though now. I questioned them if they were local, and he said no they were a large organization and i asked for his name and they hung up. not that i would have given them any money anyway, but just so people know it came up on my id as private

[QUOTE=Anonymous;493760]I just received a call and added it to my "DO NOT ANSWER" list. QUOTE]

Great solution.

I received a call from this number (615-383-4260) today and the caller hung up when I answered. Weird because if they wanted money then hanging up seems to be counter-productive. They are now on my "Do Not Answer" list too.
