RE: Demand for Debt Validation - Account #[ACCOUNT NUMBER]
Dear Sir/Madam:
I have received your collection notice regarding an alleged debt on account [ACCOUNT NUMBER]. I am writing to formally request validation of this debt in accordance with the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act, 15 U.S.C. § 1692g.
I require proof that:
- I am legally obligated to pay this debt
- You are authorized to collect this debt
- The amount stated is accurate and correct
- The debt is not beyond the statute of limitations in my state
- You have obtained or possess the original signed contract
Federal Law Requirement:
Under the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act, you must validate the debt within 30 days of receipt of this letter. Failure to provide proper validation means the debt cannot be legally collected and collection efforts must cease.
What Constitutes Validation:
Validation requires written verification that includes:
- The account statement from the original creditor
- A copy of the signed contract or agreement
- A detailed accounting of the charges and interest applied
- Proof that you are authorized to collect
- Any other relevant documents establishing the debt
No Collection Action:
While you are determining whether this debt is valid, you should not take any collection action against me. To do so would violate the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act.
I do not admit owing this debt. I am exercising my rights under federal law.
Please send all communications via certified mail to the address listed above.
Sincerely,
[Your Name]
