Does anyone know if WAMU checking account (online) does a chexsystem or teletrack or any of the many other checks to see if I qualify? I noticed that they want my ss number and drivers license number on the online appllication. Any help would be great with this.

thanks

Luke - I checked into WAMU myself, and if I remember right, the one thing that stopped me was that I had to have an existing checking account to transfer funds into my WAMU account, and then I could close my old checking account. They didn't want it funded from a savings acccount.

I can't remember if they said they used Chexsystems - Teletrac wouldn't play into it - that's only for payday lenders and rent-to-own retails stores. telecheck might play into it, though.

Hey Lukeskywalker,
If you open the account online, they do not check chex. If you go into the bank... they do. I know this from experience. Who knows, sometime that may change, so, If you are going to open one I would do it right away.

I opened my account online and they didn't deny me and I know I have been reported to chexsystems. Knock on wood that they don't go and check my chexsystems and close my checking and savings account. There customer service reps are very friendly and always willing to help.

I donkt miss a regular checking account, I have another one that is just as good. I just donkt have paper checks. And you know what, I think that is a good thing, because I can never go to another payday loan store, or have to write a check that may bounce, etc. Maybe I will just stay where I am at. Thanks for all the advise, and I would still appreciate your commments about this.

thanks

Yes they do. They opened an account for me online and then two weeks later when I went to the drive thru to withdraw funds, there was a freeze on the account. I had to go inside to find out what the problem was. Turns out my name came up on chex systems and they planned to close my account. I just hadn't gotten the letter yet. But two weeks after the account was closed, I got checks in the mail anyway. I'm going to take them to the bank so THEY can shred them themselves!

Unfortunately it is really dumb if you ask me and I believe there should be a law against it ...but banks such as WAMU, Wachovia, and Wells Fargo are well known for opening accounts for customers and then later they will run random checks , freeze, and close the accounts if you are on chexsystems.

People have been told by branch managers that it is okay they even have a report on chexsystems but once loss Prevention makes a decision to close the account, it really doesn't matter what the manager had said.

For that reason, I really would not trust all of my money with one of these banks. If you are going to use a bank like this, definitely find a " back up" account just in case.

Have you tried any of these?

US BANK

Most US banks are giving accounts to most people on chexsystems. These are regular accounts ..not 2nd chance checking...as long as you do NOT owe them money and you are not reported on your chexsystems report for any kind of " fraudulent activity " you can get an account here. It is best not to apply online but to go into a branch local to you. There are some branches that are still not not using this policy so it might be a good idea to call a branch local to you and ask about their policy first before going in. Some US branches have signs that actually say chexsystems.. no problem ..yet others will not open accounts at all ...from what we have been told you need to go to a location that is an " in store " location not a regular branch ..the " in store locations only " are the one approving these accounts not regular branches

POST FROM BOARD.......
I actually called the 1800 number and they told me that as long as you don't owe TCF any money, anybody can open an account. And they also told me that they weren't affiliated with the other banks. So I looked online to find one that was close to me, and they told me the same thing and I was allowed to open up a checkings with $25, and still haven't had any problem. And I receiived a debit card as well.

*** please note that members have reported accounts being closed when they owed money to " other banks " it is best to have chex paid in full to be considered safe with this account

regarding WaMu opening an online account....when you open the account online, it does a soft hit on your credit. That means it only checks your score, but not the whole report. And it doesn't show up as an inquiry, so it doesn't affect your score. Once that part is approved, back office runs chexsystems in a few days time. My suggestion...becuase I work there...is to fo to a branch, make a deposit of $1, and let it sit for a few days or a week before you start using the account and giving that account info out for direct deposit and stuff like that. If you know you're on Chexsystems...don't even bother trying. It will get closed. We cannot override Chexsystems in the branch when opening an account. If the manager does over-ride it, the back office WILL come along and close the account. There were too many losses taken with making exceptions, so there is now a blanket policy for no exceptions. I hope this helps someone out there. :D

Lately alot of people have been telling me that they are getting accounts with WAMU and they are reported to chexsystems. From what I can gather from the email below, the report must be at least 3 years old
( more than likely paid ) and not indicate fraud. The accounts were NOT closed.
