To settle or not to settle

I made a bad decision involving alcohol in October of 2004. I was taken to the Ohio State University Medical Center. A bill for services rendered was sent to an incorrect address. The medical center never utilized the insurance information I had with the University either nor did they attempt to contact me or find out a correct mailing address which was on file with the Ohio State University.
They charged off the expenses to Rossman & Co. I only recently found out about this as I wasn declined for student loans for graduate school until I had my father co-sign. It is 575 dollars. Is it worth it to me to settle the debt with them if it drops out of my report after seven to ten years anyways? It's been almost two years since the incident and I have no other derrogatory account to my name however my FICO score is a pretty disheartening 621. If it would significantly help increase my credit rating to pay off the debt then I will.

Besides, you will never know when this small amount can turn out to be a huge balance adding interests in the later period. If you are able to pay this account, don't delay it.
