I found a good letter to send, as I am about to attempt to start settling some accounts that have been in collection for awhile.

I hope I can post the link here, becuase I have a somewhat specific question about it. ;)

Do I send this letter as an INITIAL correspondence, and wait for them to send it back, signed by them, before I send any money? I've read to not call CAs on the phone because everything should be in writing, and send CMRR.

Thanks,
Jenna

Jenna, prefer to do all communication with the collection agency in writing but if you want, keep a follow up over the phone. If they sound hard, communicate with them only in writing.

I saw that letter and it states an agreement about the proposal set between both the parties. Did you call the CA and express your intentions to settle the debt? You have to arrange a conversation and know if they are willing to go ahead in this matter. If yes, you can send the letter in writing and get the deal signed by them.

At this point, I won't send any money because they might transfer it towards the account without offering any privilege. You can consult with a few others also.
