Because of a vendor dispute, we withheld payment for services not received. After getting what we paid for, I paid this account in full. The creditor reported us on all three CRAs that we were a charge off! I even have a letter from the creditor saying that we paid in full in January 2005, but they reported us as a charge off in March 2005. This has greatly affected our FICO. I tried writing letters to the creditor and disputed it on all three reports, but still have not been able to get it resolved. Now it's being reported as a charge off, but paid in full!?! How can I get this resolved? It's due to stay on my reports for another 5 years!

Don't let this negative information hurt your credit for such a long period. If you have proof of this account being paid, it must be reported in the fair ways. You can take legal actions against the CRA as well as the creditor for reporting inaccurate negative information in your file. The Fair Credit Reporting Act educates the consumers and promotes the accuracy, fairness and privacy of information in the files of the CRAs.

Send a follow up letter on the disputed item once again and request them to re-investigate the matter. Ask them to show you the results of their investigation done since you have proof of the account being paid. I hope the matter is sorted out this time.
