I have gotten so many phone calls from various collectors for persons that had my phone number over 2 years ago. Some of the collectors have become rude and refuse to respond when telling them I AM NOT that person. Plus, some collectors are calling, leaving no messages....just their number on my caller ID. Today I bit the bullet had number changed to non-published. When they now call they will get message phone disconnected. Did locate person they are trying to call...the guy just laughed saying how funny and said...at least they aren't calling me. Hope this ends the mess. AND....be careful requesting your credit report as that is where some collectors are getting your current information.

MannK, did you send a cease and desist letter to these CAs? You can actually put them under control using the fdcpa laws.

I sent out cease to about 5 and still continued getting more and more calls. Todays was end of rope...8 calls from collectors..2 of them were new ones. One of the new ones did show on caller ID...it is I.C. Systems, Inc. and area code indicates calling from MN.Then the number 651-481-6302 called 3 times today...decided enough is just enough..bit the bullet and changed the number. Interesting so many are coming from MN. Another is Financial Recovery Services. What is so upsetting...I do not owe any monies to ANYONE. Made sure everything was paid in full before retiring. AND the person they are seeking just thinks this is funny.

I had to do the same thing this past January. The people who used to have our phone number over 2 yrs. ago were still giving it out as their current number. I had doctor's office calling to confirm appts., debt collectors, insurance companies, you name it.

I have my own debt troubles, sure don't need harrassing calls for someone else's debt!!

Tiffany....that is exactly what am talking about. Even their day care center keeps calling...that makes NO SENSE to me. I went to anywho.com and found person that had this number and when calling them...the husband just thought whole thing funny. Sure isn't funny to me. I hope this will get their bill collectors off my phone from now on. Today I gave the collectors the correct number. If collectors do a property search am hoping the phone change will make the difference. Will let you know what happens.

I have been getting harassing calls for somebody I don't know from these vermon. I installed an auto dialer in my computer and started to call thers pains in the neck mback. For every 1 call I call them back 10 times (ties up their operators)I also got an auto message from PC Magizine site and now I autodial them auto messages 10 to 1. They finally got tired and stopped calling. I gues I was costing them some money.

Just think if all you people that are being harrassed by these slime called back 2, maybe 3 times and said: oh sorry wrong #, where do you live, hows the weather, etc. they would have to spend more money on people to answer the calls , it also stops them from calling out.

Property search? I did not know they could get an unlisted number that way. (They could get your number on their caller ID unless you block it, and you cannot block it all the time, because some can still see your number, like police, 800 numbers, etc) If I had a private number, I would not reveal it to anyone but people I trust not to give it out. I already give false numbers to people I buy from and internet registrations to avoid telemarketers from getting my number.

I forgot to add: There is a device that "supposedly" block all calls, except the ones you allow. I don't have it, but I would try it if people kept calling I did not want to hear from, and call block did not work.

I cannot say how good bad it is, but if it works, you can block junk calls like you can email spammers!!
