Hello:

First, I have read numerous postings on this site and this is great information. I was about to lose my home in 2005 and discovered PDL's (BIG MISTAKE). One PDL, led to about 6 and next thing I knew my paychecks wore gone and I couldnt pay bills, so I closed my checking account. A year later, I am getting emails and call from the PDL companies and they are willing to work with me at reduced balances, which helsp but I can't afford them at this time. However, they say that if I dont pay its a "criminal offense" and considered fraud. Anyway, I am in MASS and here, you can't just file Bankruptcy, with an Oct 2005 new law, you have to file Ch 13 ( a court ordered payment plan) and it cost's between 1200-2000, which I don't have. Does anyone know a cheaper way to file, can you file on your own w/out an attorney?

Any advice is appreciated.

Thanks

Jose

Welcome to the forums :D You are joining a host of others who are,or have been where you are. Since you signed up,did you also sign up for the free credit counseling? If so, someone will contact you soon and give you some ideas. I would consider bankreptcy last,if it were me. Consolidation may be of great help to you. You can combine all of them into one monthly payment with lower interest. There are times when bankruptcy is the only option, but I think I would get with legal aid if I were going to do that option. Talk to the counselor, they may have solutions you haven't thought of. Good Luck-Keep us posted...Karen

Hi Jose, Bossy is right. You will have to arrange some kind of money and get rid of your past debts. If you state doesn't allow filing chapter 7 bankruptcy, you will need some money to carry on the payment plan under chapter 13. Look for part time jobs for some source of income. This will help in carrying on your daily expenses and stop building new debts. Perhaps, you will be able to contribute some money towards your existing debts. Think positive, there is a way out!
