I was 18 when I moved out from my family home. Of course at that age I thought I was grown up and a know it all. I got a few credit cards had a steady job, paid off bills, etc. Soon enough I had gotten really ill, to the point where it was life threatening. I desperately needed to admit myself into rehabilitation. After my recovery, my past had come to haunt me. And now, until this day from nearly 6 years ago, I am in a tremendous amount of debt. I can't get a credit card, I can't rent an apartment, nor even buy myself a car to drive. So there you have it, there's my story.

Thank You

Hi, welcome to the forums!

You're not alone in this debt-crazed world. Many have gone through, what you have. Glad to hear you're life threatening illness is gone. Your health is the most valuable asset you probably have right now.

Currently do you have a job? If you have a job, getting a car is not that hard. You must have at least verifiable income, a drivers license, and a utility bill (or the sort) in your name. Pick up a current copy of Auto Mart at your grocery store. I could also send you a few links of places that might be able to help you, that don't necessarily run credit, but require about $500 down.

Now, as far as your credit goes, have you pulled a recent credit report? You stated that you got ill 6 years ago. In most states, the SOL is 7 years. So what that means, is that some things will start to fall off, and not even a collection agency will have a legal stand on collecting from you.

Do you know your FICA score? Have you taken advantage of any free credit reports that provide that? You should check it out.

If your credit is still in the zone, perhaps you should consider consolidation. By signing up on this site, you automatically registered yourself for a free consultation. Speak with the counselor during your session, as they'll be able to provide the answers to all your questions.

In the meantime, stick around in the forums. We'd love to see you around, and could even help with basic questions. Some of us could even help with the more confusing.

Cheers
Mike
