Correct me if I am wrong

I later faxed over the card to the hospital a day or two later and I didn't hear anyhting until I got a bill in the mail. Anyone who knows anything about medicade knows that you are told to disreguard the bill and continue on about your every day life. Which I did.
A year later I was contacted by NCO saying they had the debt. Im not disputing this or anyhting and I have no intentions on calling them and arguing about it because I've taken steps through the medicade office to get it cleared up.
My concearn is this.. I just recieved a message on my voice mail which i have not deleted because as a debt collector I was told that we are unable to do this.

"This message is from NCO Financial Systems Inc a Debt Collection company if this is FYI's Spouce. please call us toll free at 8884386896 and use id code *******. That # again is 8884386896 and use id code *******. Thank you and good bye.
It is computer generated.
I always understood that you could not impress upon anyone listening to the message that it was in any reguards to a financial situation, am I wrong? Does Debt Collection not imply that it is a financial matter?

You are absolutely correct, and hence the major problem most people who come to this forum have with the majority of debt collectors (this is not to say all collectors do this). As this was a computer generated message, it is CLEAR that their CORPORATE POLICY is to Do WHATEVER necessary to collect the debts, EVEN if it is a FLAGRANT violation of applicable state and federal laws.
Welcome to our world.

You need to get verification that you had coverage with Medicaid at the time and provide it the creditor/collection agency. You are not responsible for the bill if you can provide proof of coverage at that time. You can contact the case worker with Human Services (Medicaid) for the proof of eligibility. I have been through the same situation, my son has both primary insurance and Medicaid as secondary now, and even though I gave the ER both insurances in person at the time of the visit, somehow this did not get reported to the billing department and it ended up in collections and on my credit report. I gave the collection agency my proof and also gave proof to the credit bureau.

I am familiar with unfair debt collection pratices, unfair and unlawful. I was severely in debt a few years ago and I am just now managing to crawl my way out by even paying debts that are no longer on my CBR because I owe the money.
I am a debt collector by choice. I follow the rules and I truely feel I am helping people my getting arrangements that help them pay back their obligation.
It does irk me when I come across a company or a collector who is knowingly breaking the rules.

My son is on disability. He has been covered for medical from 2 years of age and he will continue to recieve it through his entire life.
Im going to give medicade another two weeks to deal with this then I will activly participate in getting this taken care of. That will give them a total of one month to get this situation fixed.
Make that two messages that I have still in my Vonage mailbox.

hehe, and on my moral high horse again.. Why not sue them for the fdcpa violation. Don't need the money? Then take their money and donate it to a charity, maybe St, Jude's Children's' Research Hospital. The more people keep letting them get away with these tactics, the more they will keep doing it and pushing the envelope further and making your job (FYI) as a conscientious and compassionate collector that much harder.
