i just got an update of my credit report and there are items on it that are foreign to me, different social #'s i supposedly used and different names, i was wondering why i kept getting turned down for things, i dont know what to do about all the extra stuff on there...i knew my credit was messed up, i figured i owed maybe 15000, but i see 35000 worth of debt on my report. :? :x

Hi Divalen!! you will need to approach this a couple of different ways. I would write the 'foreign' creditors that are on your credit report and ask for validation from them. This would force them to 'prove' to you that these debts are yours. If they provide you with proper validation and it still shows different SSN's and are in fact, NOT yours, you would need to let them know that the said accounts are not yours. Also, the same time you write these creditors about 'said' accounts, you would also need to write the credit bureaus and DISPUTE it with them. Send them a copy of your SSN and drivers license, therefore proving that the 'said' SSN is not yours. They will do an investigation from there, checking to see if 'said' accounts are yours. They may also put a fraud alert on your reports. Which brings me to something else...if you feel there is fraud going on with your credit and credit reports (say there are some accounts on there, that you DID NOT make but are showing up as your SSN), you would need to file a police report. But if its just accounts with a different SSN than yours, clearly a mistake has been made by the creditor OR credit bureaus. hope I have helped. If anyone else wants to jump in here and add something I may have missed, please by all means. =) shirley

thanks for responding, i will try that and see what happens...hopefully it will get cleared up, i wished i had known about this sooner, i just recently tried to get a used car and got denied, since the cost of the car wasnt much, i knew i had to find out why i was denied, my credit isn't the best, but when i added up all the stuff on there it totaled 35,000, i was shocked...and then there are several different addresses i supposedly lived at...4 of them in a different state i have never been to...i didnt know what to do, so thanks for the info, at least i know where to begin.
