I live in New York city and I am 23 years old.
As you may or may not know rent in New York is very very expensive. Living is very expensive and I also have Expensive habits. I have about 3500 in credit card debt which is killing me and I am one month late on rent which is 1350 dollar behind. My credit card bill keeps growing because I need to use to to pay other bills and pay rent. Any sort of advice would help

Take this advice, jnaggiar if you wish something good for you in the future. Cut off your expensive habits as you mentioned. They won't help you anywhere; instead you will be forced into further debts and other embarrassing moments. Apply some money management skills in your monthly income. If you are calculative right from today, you will find everything happening for good. Most importantly, you will find your debt under control.

For wiping off your existing debts, a consolidation plan will sound helpful. Don't let your accounts go further into default. This will be tarnishing your credit negatively. I think that you should talk with your credit companies and tell them about your situation. If you show them your keen interest of paying the accounts, they will refrain from posting anything negative in your file and work with you willingly. A debt counselor will later arrange everything for you and negotiate with the companies.
