I am interested in writing a letter to credit bureaus to remove any derigatory items in my credit history.

Accurate negative information cannot be taken off from the credit file before the seven years reporting time is over. Review your credit copies from the three bureaus thoroughly and find out if any entry is being reported incorrectly. These types of info can hurt the credit scores severely. Dispute the incorrect items in writing with the bureaus. They will run a check with your companies and update your file with proper information. You might see some rise in your scores after the incorrect info is taken off. Section 602 of the Fair Credit Reporting Act forces accuracy and fairness of credit reporting to be followed in individual credit files. Read the laws in the FTC website about FCRA laws.
