I've been reading a lot about DV letters and such, and it's been mentioned that it's better to reword letters so they sound "authentic" and not just copied/pasted. So this morning I picked up a notebook and wrote out a letter. Please let me know what I need to change or add!

Quote:
I dispute this debt. I have no record of ever owning an account with the aforementioned account number. I demand validation, including proof that this debt and account is mine, paperwork showing how you calculated the amount you say I owe, paperwork identifying the original creditor, and proof that you have the authority to collect on this account.

Also, please note that I have enclosed a partial copy of my credit report and circled duplicate entries that have been reported by your company. Regardless of the outcome of my requested validation, I demand immediate deletion of one of the duplicate entries. If you fail to provide me with the complete validation as requested, I demand total deletion of BOTH entries made on my credit report by your company.

According to the Fair Credit Reporting Act, only correct and validated information may be reported on my credit report.

Sincerely,

Okay, do I have my information correct?

Thanks!
Jenna

Jenna, if this letter explains your situation properly, go ahead and send it to the company. They will have to review the item entered in your credit report. Incorrect information reported by any company in the credit report is not allowed under the FCRA laws. You have to act strong and do this repair work. You will be rewarded with some extra credit scores after removal of this negative item if it has been reported incorrectly. If this helps, define your sentences using some legal language mentioned in the FCRA. You will find some tips in the FCRA link.
