Hello,
I settled a debt with Sherman over an old Discover card charge off. At least I thought I settled it. Now I'm receiving calls and letters from LVNV Funding. I have not spoken to them or made any paymnet. My question is the orginial creditor (Discover) is past sol. I just finished paying Sherman off in July. Did that restart the sol? The letter doesn't say Discover anywhere on it. All it says is date of service 07/29/1993. Regarding OSI/Gulf State- Credit Original. Says I owe $1,345.27. Thank you in advance.

Check out with Sherman whether they have posted your money in your file. If you have paid it off, you do not owe anyone anything. Will you be able to prove your past payment done on the account and settling it off? A receipt or entries in the bank statements can prove your payments done to towards the account? This account should also be updated in your credit report.

I am wondering why LVNV Funding is doing further collections for the same debt? This can only happen when the money is not posted towards your account by the other company. Ask them to do the debt validation so that you know the status of the account. You will figure about their legitimate collections.

SOL gets renewed from the date of last payment. If the money is sent to your account, the SOL will be applicable from the latest date. Also, you are saying that the account has been settled off?? Are you uncertain about it?

Thanks for the fast reply. I paid Sherman for over a year. Finally paid them one lump sum and the woman told me I was through paying them. I should have gotten that in writing but I didn't know I needed to. I do have cancelled checks. Guess they sold the balance difference to LVNV? If the original creditor is past sol does that mean I don't have to pay or did it start over when I paid Sherman? Thanks!

Cathy-check this out-it gives alot of info on LVNV http://www.yesdebtfree.org/collection-agencies.html LVNV has several other companies under its umbrella. If you did not get a paid as agreed or paid in full, chances are they passed it to another one of their companies. They did this with me-everytime I tried to get validation, they passed to another one of theirs.Be sure and get everything in wrining. Do send a DV letter, and try to find out whre your money went and now what are they collecting for. Good Luck :D ...Karen

Thanks, I will send a DV letter asap. They've called my house numerous times today. I have Caller I.D. and they even called under a different name. Started with a V. A strange name but the message and reference number was the same. Guess they thought they could trick me into answering.
