I am a single mother of one, who receives $118.00 per week child support (if I’m lucky). I had to leave my job in March 2005 because my child was having extreme difficulties in school, which we later found out he has ADHD. Once I got my son’s problems straightened out I tried looking for a job but here I am a year later, with nothing.

My sole support right now is my fiancé, who I recently moved in with because I had depleted my savings account. I have been on plenty of interviews, I can honesty say that I’ve been on at least 1 interview a week for the past 6 months, but I am not getting hired. I visited two staffing firms this week and both told me that the reason I’m not getting call backed is because of my terrible credit report.

Looking at my credit report right now, I have a student loan that is overdue (about $3,000.00; I only started taking courses because I was going to be reimburse through my job, but when I had to leave they pulled out.) a Macy’s card which I owe about $200.00, and a HSN card which I owe about $2900.00. All three are in collections because I have not been able to make any payments at all this whole year.

Would I be elligibe for debit consolidation? I only have an income of $118.00 a week right now. Best I could pay towards consolidation is $25.00 a week.

I really need a job, but was told by two staffing firms until I improve my credit report it’s not likely I can get hired. I even tried the local stores nearby but making minimum wage will not help me if I have to pay a child care center more then my paycheck.

Desperate and need help!

I've been applying for Receptionist and Admin Assistant positions. I live in NY and all of these companies are high profile businesses in NYC therefore they are all doing credit checks. My work experience has been back office Operations in investment firms as well as banking experience.

Even the local companies here on the outskirts of the city are all doing credit checks (I assume) because on each interview I????????ve been completing a form given permission to pull my credit report.

I????????ve even tried local cashier jobs, figuring that they will definitely NOT pull my credit report however the hours they want would mean I would have to put my son in an after school program I pay for. And working at minimum wage (currently $6.75) I would be forking it all over to child care, so it defeats the purpose. Not to mention I have one credit agency down my back who can????????t WAIT for me to go to work so they can garnish my pay.

I even considered public assistant. I was denied because I live with my fianc???? now. And even though his bring home pay is only $400.00 a week and my monthly rent is $1300.00 a month they said he makes to much money.

Quote:

And could you do something for yourself?

Not sure what you mean by that. Could you please clarify?

Hello,

I am sorry to hear about the difficulties that you are facing. Well, but you should not give up because there is hope.

First, you should take care of those cards in collection. Speak to a counselor. Once you fill out a form, they will be able to help you with your debt consolidation needs. And they will tell you if you are eligible.

As you know, you will need an income source to take care of the bills. You should look for admin assistant jobs out side of the financial sector. Credit checks are just a part of the game in the financial sector and the government. So you are going to have to find work outside of your comfort zone until you straighten out your credit.

Welcome to the forums :D Since you are registered with this forum,a counselor will contact you and discuss options with you. Have you talked to your original creditors yet? Some of them have a type of haardship payment plan. Muy son got on one with his credit card, they dropped all interest, late fees, etc.,for a payment each month for a year, and they were helpfull about making the payment small/ As far as day care,in most cities, and mine is a snall town, they have programs run specifically for those in need. You don't have to be on welfare,it's a day care for those with certain income guidelines, you might check around for that. If you have to get a minimun wage job,at least you won't have to worry about child care expence. Then while you are working, you can also look for another job down the road. I'm like others, there are jobs that don't take your credit into play. For the time being(nothing is forever) you may have to do this until you can get ahead. Feel free to ask questions and good luck!...Karen

It says I posted last-but it must have disappeared! Someone will contact you about your options, such as consolidation. Check out the town where you live for help with child care. In ours, there are agencies, you don't have to be on welfare, that you can get child car free or reduced, depending on your income. That will help if you have to get minimum wage job. Since nothing is forever, you can look for other jobs that don"t go by your credit. Working minimum wage, without having to pay much for child care will help. There are also other jobs that don't check your credit. If you haven't talked to your creditors, ask them about some type of hardship program to pay them .My son got on one with a cc and they dropped interest, late fees, etc.,for a certain payment for a year, and the payment was small. Feel free to ask questions-we are here to help...KAren :D

Wow,
It's a real Catch22--you're *** if you do and ***if you don't! Welcome to America in 2006, sadly.
By doing something for yourself, I meant possibly doing your own business. It sounds like you have good office skills. How fast do you type and how are your computer skills? This could possibly be something you could turn into cash.
Do you live close to a Community College/University? Kids there are always looking for people to type papers for them, for example.
Another avenue is to take a Medical Terminology course and get training as a medical transcriptionist. I know many transcriptionists who work out of the home, for example.
I know what you mean about having a credit report pulled in the financial sector,as my brother works in banking.
Lastly, have you thought about temping? You technically work for the agency, not the company you go to, so that might be an option.
Keep us posted!
