I have about 10 PDLs. I closed my checking account and now I would like to know what steps I should take now. I don't want them to relentlessly call my work, but I am in no position to pay them anything yet. Any advice?

First of all..Are all of these online pdls?
When I closed my account during the pdl war, the first thing I did was send a letter to each of the companies explaining my situation. I also included a proposed payment plan, and a cease and desist letter.
If you stay in contact with them, they have no reason to contact you. Also, they will give you more wiggle room (usually) if you are upfront and let them know you DO intend to pay them back. For the most part, things went pretty smoothly for me.

A small amount of money towards your account will be good for you in order to keep it current. Otherwise, some lenders are very quick in sending it to the collections. Needless to say, the sad stories of collection agencies contacting people and harassing them begin from there.

I will also say that communication is very important. I was batteling about 15 PDL's and the first chunk of them I just closed my account and didn't contact them. I had a very hard time with that group and was constantly receiving phone calls and emails. By the time I was ready to battle the second chunk of the PDL's I had found this sight and took everybody's advice and communicated with my PDL's. It went much smoother and the majority of them didn't even try to contact me because I had contaced them first. There was a few stubborn ones, but over all it was much easier and I have this site to thank for that.

One more option...If you are not sure of how to handle your situation, get some professional advice from a debt counselor. He will contact your lenders for you and work out something. This will also prove helpful in staying close with your lenders and know their moves.
