Just moved to NC looking to consolidate all of my credit cards and have the creditors stop calling me.

The counselor can help after knowing about your situation. If you have registered for the free counseling, someone will be calling you soon. When the creditors call you next time, tell them that you are hiring a consolidation company and they will be making their proposals. Have you offered any payment plans to your creditors just in case, if it works?

People mostly look for a debt management programs to get lower interest rates tacked on the credit card accounts. In some cases, when the accounts are already in default, a consolidation program will make the accounts current with all the benefits under it. A debt counselor contacts the credit companies for you and offers the payment proposals. Since the creditors are willing to get their money back, they will accept sound proposals either from you or your consolidation company. You can contact your credit companies and let them know about your financial situation. Offer the payment plans suitable to you. If they accept it, you won't need to hire a consolidation company.
