sample letters effectiveness

I reviewed these letters and noticed the follwoing request:
"However, any references to late payment or charge offs on this account should be deleted from my credit file."

Is this request effective? Do companies actually accept these requests? I thouht that once reported they could not remove it if it was accurate?
