I just received a 3 bureau report for myself. I noticed serveral inaccuracies between the three. Most are nominal, about $50 difference in amounts. However several accounts appear on one report but not the other two.

I've heard many myths about credit reports and what you can do to remove items, change/challenge them, etc.

For example, I have heard that I can dispute one company's record based on the fact that the other 2 don't list it and they will have to remove it from my report?

The other is the challange theroy. It says that if I challenge everything on my report, the credit agency has 30 days to respond. If they do not, then they have to remove the item in question.

Is there any truth to these statements?

Hi BMill

Welcome to the forums.

Yes, I believe that you have heard the ways to dispute with the credit bureaus in a partial and informal way.

Please know the facts of how to dispute with the credit bureaus in the legal way. Reading this page of the Federal Trade Commission will clear all your myths and provide a complete overview.
