Hi! I would like to ask how Portfolio Recovery Ass can report incorrectly on my credit report. I have disputed the information 4 times and even sent a notorized court document to back up my amount as opposed to the amount they are reporting and each time it has came back that the collection agency is correct. The person at Equifax pretty much told me that they report what the collection agency tells them (I guess whether right or wrong) Isn't there something that can be done other than posting a 100 or less word follow up by me for me credit file. This seems illegal. I wouldn't think they can put "whatever they want"

The FCRA laws are available to the consumers offering protection from willful injury or defamation by any company. You can actually file a class action lawsuit against the company or the CRA that is reporting incorrect items in your file. If you have proof of your case, your case will sound stronger. Send letters to the collection agency through your lawyer.

I just wanted to follow up and post that I have filed a complaint with the Federal Trade Commission http://www.ftc.gov/ against this collection agency for their deceptive practices and I encourage anyone else to do this also. They cannot get away with this and the FTC needs to know about it or they cannot do anything. So if anyone else has an issue please file a complaint. (Maybe then enough for a class action lawsuit against them)
