After sending a debt validation letter to a CA...

I recently sent a debt validation letter to a CA who said they were representing First American Investments Co. -- a bad debt buyer. Immediately after they received the letter, First American Investments Co. made a negative report about the alleged debt on my credit report, and under the "current status," they claimed that they were unable to locate me -- despite the fact that their CA called me on the phone, and I provided my address on the debt validation letter.
Can they do this when I've disputed the debt with their collection agency? Do I need to send a separate dispute letter to the debt buyer now?

A validation letter and a dispute letter are two differen't thin
A validation letter and a dispute letter are two differen't things. If you know it isn't your debt then you should dispute it.
