Write your state representatives and senators, that would be a great start to bring it to their attention and to get laws passed on a state level.

It's not going to happen at a state level, it will need to be addressed by Washington itself, states are too wishy washy, this state has this law and this one has another, PDL's need to be banned at a national level, a government level.

I have spoken with staff at the dept. responsible for overseeing these types of companies, and as it was told to me that it is up to each individual state to determine the laws in regards to this type of business. And in order to make a change you must write your representatives and senators to bring attention to the matter. The only change I see Washington taking against these pdls is to protect military members and their families. I know that my state doesn't take it lying down when these pdls violate the laws. But there are states out there that don't see this as a big issue and don't take action to protect the consumer.

I agree that we must start at the state level since each state governs themselves where pdl's are concerned.

Read Mishelle Singletary's column in the Business Section of the Contra Costa Times (Contra Costa Times.com) today. It's an excellent column about the move to bring this law benefitting military families into the civilian world.

PDl's are businesses operating in the free market. You can't fault them on trying to make a dollar. The problem lies with the people using them. We need to educate the population, not regulate PDLs. We already have too many stifling laws. If someone needs the cash and is willing to pay 400%, then by all means let them. But don't waste my tax dollars regulating another free market industry.

Free market my foot these people are vultures who prey on the unsuspecting and desperate. They know statistics will show PDL clients live paycheck to paycheck and that most likely they won't be able pay the loan back first go round. Read my blog entry for today and this is a perfect example of a victim of this so called business operating on the free market. They are financial predators and will be stopped if not by me but by someone else. As for wasting tax dollars do you have about 6 hours where we can sit down and I can tell you how MY tax dollars are wasted. Give me a break and take your argument to your dinner table.

I also found out that the number of military members who are losing their security clearances due to debt problems from PDL's is on the rise! Interesting....and you wonder why the Dept of Defense is cracking down!
