I put my shotgun next to my door in case a collection agency comes lookin for me. Legally I can shoot them cause there on private property.

No, you can not legally shoot the collector. You have to prove you were in imenent danger and feared for your life and had no other way of protecting yourself. When you have the choice to not open the door. Put the shotgun away, no collection agency is coming to your house to collect your debt.

WOW!!! Really are you kidding me. You cant be serious. I knew that some of the people on this forum were idiots, but I mean REALLY. I hope a collector comes to your door, the bone collector that is. That would mean one less moron populating a nation that is already filled with enough.

No offense, forum members, but this time around I see where this one is coming from. First, collectors never make housecalls. Second, if you owe money just step up to the plate and pay it, no need for theatrics and a shotgun. Thirdly, if you would rather shoot collectors than just negotiate your debts, you display a complete lack of maturity and you give this forum and the other members a bad name. Yes, it's fun sometimes to entertain thougths of bringing about the demise of someone who gets our goat, but that is something to keep to yourself.

If you think you can shoot people just for being on private property, then I fear for the lives of meter-readers, mail carriers, delivery people, adn census takers in your area. If the debt in question is owed on a vehicle, then not the collector but the repossession rep would have a right to set foot on your property in order to reclaim theirs.

Yeah, even I wouldnt say crap like that and I do hate collectors with a passion! Well, the dishonest ones anyways... I pay mu bills so the only ones that call my house are trying to pull some sort of scam.

On a lighter note, I had a new colletion agency call my house and leave notices on my door ( its a rent to own place so theyre local). The person who was renting my house before I bought it decided to trash the house because he was mad that he had to move out ( that and he had to accually pay rent elsewhere because he wasnt paying the rent here). I found ut where he moved to and told them where he was - but only because they were nice to me and didnt try to harrass me. I guess there are nice collectors in the world.

You guess? I'm one of them! I did student loans which was wonderful, a brief and miserable stint in junk debt, and now I'm temping at a subprime auto lender. I've never broken any laws or caused anyone any undue stress, at the same time still negotiated the accounts. That's the one and only way to do it.

You know what, I actually pointed my hubby's 30-06 at a property inspector because he was peeking in the windows. Then one day he came to the door and demanded to come in, so I said wait a minute and I grabbed the 12 gauge and told him to let his conscious be your guide. They were both unloaded, be he didn't know that. This happened when all the collection agencies were calling, pdls harassing, close to losing our home. Being in this kind of financial trouble will make you do strange things. Then once you get everything taken care of and a handle on things, you think back and wonder why in the hell did I do that? I could have been arrested for pointing a gun! Thank goodness the kids were in school when this happened.

Wow, what did the inspector do? I would've ran all the way to my car and not look back. Did he call the police? You are lucky. I understand that people tend to lose their judgement when faced with financial disaster or other life stressors can trigger emotions we never thought we were capable of. Hopefully this person has read the responses and come to their senses.

Ironically enough Jedi, I thought to include you just as i clicked the reply button.... and shiatting you either!

Man I still thank my lucky stars Im in Canada so i dont have to deal with outrageous medical bills. How on earth do people expect you to pay them???? You can work your ass off trying to make something of yourself and in one second it all goes down the tubes due to an accident or heath problem... AND to put the icing on the cake, have collectors crush you even more! It doesnt make sence, I really feel sorry for people in this situation, i really dont know how you cope. I know i wouldnt be able to mentally survive a situation like that.

In all honesty, my heart goes out to all of you who are or will deal with this horrible possibility. Its F**ked up in my opinion.

America should adopt many policies used by other countries that make them more productive and economically stable. Canada's medical system, and Denmark's education, medical, and limited public assistance system to name a few.

Tammy, that guy should not have been peeking in your windows. That's invasion of privacy, I'd point my shotgun at him too.

Thanks for responding. I am obviously new here. My situation sucks as Im sure alot of you did or are going through tough times as well. I have large credit card debt from bad buisness decisions and gambling/drug addiction. I have since broken the gambling addiction and WILL break this drug addiction very soon. I here alot of people talking about PDL's, what exactly is a PDL? I guess I should stay away from them. It seems like alot of people have problems with them.

jbtemtp,

DUCT TAPE IS LIKE THE FORCE, IT HAS A DARK SIDE AND A LIGHT SIDE AND HOLDS THE UNIVERSE TOGETHER!

My heart goes out to you my friend in your time of need with your addictions... There are MANY people who can play with drugs and not have them affect their lives. It is not your fault that you became addicted. I know youve heard it all, just sticking up for you because you might get flamed....
Addiction is the same as having any other glitch in your system, just like not producing enough insulin.... Good luck to you, I hope it all works out.

Ummm, If Canada's health care system is so great, then why are all the Candien's coming to the US for procedures they can't get in Canada, or have to be on long wait list to have done? Goes to show the grass isn't always greener on the other side of the boarder.

IF more American would take an interest health care cost, and question excessive charges, our health care system would be a pretty good one. Truth is the QUALITY of care in the US is among the best in the world. Its the Accessibility and economics we need to figure out.

The wait lines are so long for procedures in Canada because people come to canada to get a free ride. If we prevented non tax paying people from taking advantage of us we probably wouldnt have this problem.

Still, Id rather wait a few months for a test, or have the choice to simply drive to the states and pay rather than lose everything Ive ever worked for because I got sick!

The reason there are no wait times in the states because few people can afford to pay for it.

Ok, Ok, we get the idea. If they are really harassing you, just tell them to get bent and see if you can negotiate with the original creditor.

Nope Steelers, neither do I. The hospitals, doctors, pharmaceutical companies, insurance companies, etc., would not be able to bleed us dry as they have done for so long. I lived in England and they have national healthcare. It was a new concept to me. Of course, like any other program, it has its problems, such as waiting lists for surgery, the National Healthcare System always being in debt and medical professions not paying huge salaries. But, you know that if you drop in the street, the EMTs aren't going to be raiding your belongings looking for proof of healthcare insurance, and you don't have to worry about co-pays, co-insurance and the possibility of facing bankruptcy due to mounting medical bills.

Medical bills are what started me on this road to financial despair. We paid out over $8,000 in medical bills last year, enough to claim this on our taxes, which is sad.

I take great offense to that. So you are saying that the disabled should perrish? They are unable to provide for themselves, are you saying to let them out in the world without support mechanisms to survive? I have a severely disabled son, are you suggesting that he has less rights than you? Are you saying that you are superior and therefor your life has priority over his? One word, 2 syllable:
A$$-HOLE! Thank God we live in America, and thank God for the American's with Disabilities Act, and thank God the majority of citizens around the world do not have the evil that lurks inside your head!

I was teasin Jedi...

As for the strong survive and the weak perish? Have you ever heard of welfare dude? That idealim is long gone. In Canada you get rewarded for having children out of wedlock, free school, daycare, nicer housing than the working population. The Strong survive to support those who chose not to work.

The key phrase in the above statement is:"those who chose not to work"". I do not believe society should provide for those who are capable of engaging in meaningful employement and don't do so. I do believe that as a society we have an obligation to care for those who are born with disablities, or who have acquired medical/mental conditions, or became disabled due to a tragic accident. I am about to get on the biggest soap box! I am a big advocate for the disabled and disadvantaged so please, do not take me there!

Ok, I'm not going to be the baloney in this sandwich, but I will say this. I do sympathize with those who are disadvantaged at no fault of their own, however, I despise people who are not all that disabled but collect disability anyway, I also hate welfare with a screaming passion. I know there are folks out there who are in wheelchairs, have diabetes, cancer, missing a limb, whatever, and work full time anyway. More power to you folks!

I agree with Steeler--put your shotgun away, no one's coming to collect a debt. (Are you expecting a repo man?) It's not worth it either way; behave before you wind up hurting yourself some way. You've got to do what's good for you & that includes not going to jail. God bless you.
