same thing happened to me when I heard Allied Interstate

They called my home number yesterday (once, Today (twice) and left a very short message that I needed to call them and gave a number to call.
*Curious, I called just to see what or who this was all about. They immediately asked for my phone number, so without question a simply asked "Who are you?, and what is your business, I am not going to give you my home number until you positively identify your self and your company" I was then hung up on!!
So I called back 4 more times, demanding that they tell me who they are, and that THEY called ME first and they every time I called I was hung up on because I would not give them my home number!!... They never once asked to speak to anyone by name, Just kept hanging up on me when I would not give them my home number that THEY had called!!..
This made no sense and had me furiously mad to find out who or what this was, so I started researching Google on the info I did have, the numbers they left me, the numbers I had called, my caller ID numbers, and what was displayed on the caller ID: ALLIED INTERSTE.
Then I found this site! WOW!!!!! I am so glad I didn't give in and give them my home number....
Companies like them should be shut down, sued, and buried!

FYI, I have a question. Why do they assume that they have the right person just because the number they have listed says it is so? Because people change numbers and then the phone company recycles them after a period of time. I guess I don't understand why they think they have the right person when they are told that the party they are trying to contact no longer has that number? I know you don't have all the answers, this just seems so unfair to people who are not the subject of the debt but yet are being accused of being the debtor.

Unfortunatly, and I experience this on a daily basis, people lie. It can make a sceptic out of a saint if they were a debt collector.
You can reverse telephone numbers in this day and age by going to any phone book website. 6 times out of 10 I can caught someone lying.
Another reason could be that someone gave a wrong# out but swearas upon the bible that it is a correct#.
I remove wrong numbers period from the dialing system. Then I investigate it but I still keep it off until I confirm it, usualy from a relative or a phone book web site. Then I will put it back. It's a longer process and I lose a lot out of the extra work I have to do but I do make sure it is confirmed before I call it again.
The best think I know how to do to avoid being called many times is to find out what's on your credit report. Your place of employment will likely report your phone number or the last place you applied for credit will do that. If you get a collection agency calling you for the wrong person. Calmly, and I do mean calmly ask for their name and company write this down. Explain to them that this is your number and you don't know the person they are looking for and tell them that they need to remove the number, and be sure to say this exactly, Do Not Call again.
If they call again ask to speak to a supervisor, get the physical address of the company and tell them that if they call again you will seek legal action. You will also need to write a physical letter to the company, make sure you keep a copy, and mail it to the company explaining in detail that this is an incorrect # and you have spoken to two of their representatives one being a supervisor and advised them that this is an incorrect # and legal action will be a next course of action should they not heed the information you have given them.

I will wish that if I fall into debt problems and end up being called by a collection agency, if I know you are doing the collections, I will be fortunate enough. FYI, I hate collection agencies because of their behavior but it's because of you, I will like to change my thoughts for a while.
