Okay story/share of the day. A few years back I had to turn in a Honda that I had purchased because I couldn't make the payments. well of course there is an outstanding balance on the account. Honda handed the collections over to a so called company called AMO Recoveries who violate the fair debt collection act as many times as they can. So I sent them a C & D letter on October 20 from debiting my account anymore and that I wanted to work with the original creditor. I had given up my account information to them before I had been enlightened. Well low and behold the account was sold to another collection agency called FBCS which seems to have a worse reputation than the first agency. So today I am sending out another C & D letter to this company and I call HFS to get their contact information as I want to send them a letter asking for copies of the original signed contract on the car. They guy would NOT give me their address, he kept saying I would have to work with the collection agency and that was where I should sent the payments. I kept telling him that I needed their address for my records as I didn't have any of the original documents. Finally he gave me their address but only after I pushed and pushed for the information. So it shows even a reputable company such as Honda plays games with their consumers.

I know. The situation becomes complicated when the original creditor sells the account to some collection agency who again hire one of their attorneys for this collection. If they fail to recover the debt, the file passes on from one company to another. Hence, much of the information loses its accuracy and large numbers of disputes come up over regular time periods.

Make sure that you pay to those who have your file. Get in writing by the company that your file will be updated by them after the debt is paid off. You should have some concrete proof before sending your money.

I have a letter being sent to Honda to validate the debt actually i am just asking for copies of the signed documents and payment history. There is much more to this debt than I can disclose on this forum but some funny business practices may have been going on so I will investigate it also but I can't look into it until I have the documents.
