PDL - Dat file attachment

I can't find my question - so hopefully
I can post it here and get the answer I need - i received a e-mail today from one of my pdls with an attachment to read to close out my account with them, since I overpaid them anyway - but I can't get the attachment to open - it is a dat file 46 kb - when I try and open it in adobe - it says to large a file and if I try in internet explorer nothing happens - I want to get this attachment so I can read over it and then close my account with them.. How do I get the attachment to open...

.dat files are quirky. A lot of programs use .dat files. You h
.dat files are quirky. A lot of programs use .dat files. You have to know which software created the .dat in order to open it. You should reply to them and ask that they send the file in a format that you have. PDF, .doc and such.
Try to open it with a notepad. If you don't know the software in
