am paying legal/collection agency for accident they supposedly bought from insurance agency. all my checks are addressed to insurance agency. legal/collection agency never notified me that they were attempting to collect on debt by mail or phone. they sent ins info regarding the accident, but i still have no real info that they own this debt and have the right to call and harress me over it. they won the judgement for the ins company, does that give them the right to suspend my license and harrass me if they can not legally prove to me that they now own the debt?
why doesn't ohio require a license?

You don't have to pay the collection agency until they sent you the debt info in writing. The federal laws of debt validation are there to back you. All collection agencies need to be licensed in the borrowers' state before collections. The same rule applies in OH also, that's what I know.

Orake,

That is not totally correct. Only certain states require a license to collect. I can't think of all of them off the top of my head but it seems like North Carolina, Tennessee and Montana are sticklers about licensing for collection agencies. In fact, anytime I have received collection letters, on the backside there are disclaimers on the back of the letter that disclose their business ID's for these states. I do not recall ever seeing this in reference to Ohio.

Jilgate,

You might want to contact your states consumer affairs/rights department to find out for sure if a collection agency is required to be licensed in Ohio if they are collecting a debt.

They certainly do have to be licensed as required by Federal Law. Go to www.FTC.gov That's Federal trade commission. Also, you can lookup online the Fair Debt Collection and Practices Act. It spells this out for you. And, you can go to the URL below and get alot of answers regarding collection & debt collectors, I urge you to view these sites to put your mind at ease. ok.

I found what seems to be an excellent website called: BCS Alliance.com I wonder if anyones ever heard of it. Check it out if you haven't; here's the url

bcsalliance.com/y_debt_sol.html

Answered alot of my questions about the RJM-Aquisitions Funding, LLC company and what they really are as a debt collector--they're a scavenger debt collector. Also, RJM fails to advise you of your right to dispute the debt against you which is required by law.

They don't hold water at any rate.
