I need your reassurance again! I signed with Superior almost 2 months ago. I have been screening my calls or telling people I'm my sister. I did talk to Master card & gave them the info. I just got a call from a law firm Zucker & Assoc. They said Disc. sent them my bill. I told them I was with a debt settlement, & they basically said too bad. I gave them my debt counselor phone#. Whats going to happen? My counselling seervice isn't open yet, they are in Colorado. Please help me, did I do right to sign with an agency if this is the results?

Be strong, next time when you hear from Zucker & Assoc, tell them that you have placed your account with the settlement company and if they have anything to say, they should call your counselor.

Zucker & Assoc. called you on the phone. If they have your bill, they should send it to you in writing. The federal laws say that something should be sent to your mail before collections begin. You are not even sure whether this company has your file. Stay strong and let them know your situation. If their collection is legitimate, you need to see something in writing first and you will forward the message to your settlement company. Say thank you and hang up (if there is silence) !!

Mary Ann,

I had a different law firm call me today regarding one creditor that was placed with Superior as well. He told me they don't work with debt settlement either. My counselor said I gave him too much info over the phone and now it may be hard to do a settlement with them. I have the money in the account but it seems like I put my foot in my mouth on this one. The guy was a real jerk on the phone and tried to degrade me. I just said I was with debt settlement and asked to see what my options were. He said he was going to refer my case back to the lawyer tomorrow so he could sue me. My counselor is going to call them. I got the lawyers address but I'm having a hard time finding any information on them. I've never received anything from them in writing about this debt but he stated he sent it last week.

Mishele, when you hear from that guy next time, verify the address he used to send the letter. That way, you will know if anything was ever sent. Now, the company doesn't have a case against you until they can prove you are avoiding the debt. Well, you can prove that this is taken care by your settlement company and you haven't received anything in the mail yet (if they never sent) So, you find yourself safe and have valid reasons.

I just told the law firm who I was with & they tried to tell me they didn't settle & I said that my counselor told me how it works & that they should call my counselor. They were nasty. I finally called my counselor & she said they deal with Zucker every day, & all they were doing was trying to scare me into settling. I said they sure did scare me, but I felt better speaking with her. She said to send her any correspondence i get from them. You all know how easily frightend you can be when you are in this financial bind, & its awful how they prey on you. Thanks again for all the help & good words.

These posts are so much help learning about these matters. Thanks everyone. I guess I am also in the same kind of situation as Mary Ann. I am 18000 in debt mostly credit cards. I signed up with the same company and have made two payments until now. They told me that they will send power of attorney to creditors after they receive third payment. I was little worried as I am forwarding all my correspondence and statements directly to the settlement company and have adopted strategy of not responding to the phone calls. Is it possible that this kind of attitude may force them to sue quickly me as I am late in payments just for these two months? Will they send a letter of warning before that? and if my settlement company got any of such letter will they inform me in timely manner? If anyone on the forum has been in same kind of situation and has some debt settled and would like to share his experiences about that, it would be big help.

Maryann,
I too have had dealings with the same lawyers from Discover card. I got a better settlement with them then I did with my settlement comp. The lady at the office was nice to me and set me up with a nice paymant. I have a balance of #3,666.00. My monthly payment is only $25.00. You can't beat that. Let us know what happens with your offers. It won't be on my credit as late, or late fees and interest building up either. Good luck.

I talked to the law firma again today & she wants me to get a new home equity loan which would mean a bigger payment to the mtg co. But she would graciously make me a deal until I got the loan! I called my debt counselor who was out, but the other girl I talked to said that these are scare tactics, & yes they do deal with Discover & they have a contact at discover they deal with every day, same with the law firm, which is really not a law firm. She asked for the phone# of the law office & said she would give the # to the negotiators. She said they understood how scared I am & that they are there to help & are only a phone call away. I felt reassured. I have to trust someone, I guess

My jerk from Zucker, called me up and threatened to "Beat the hell out of me for being a deadbeat." I told him about my agency I was working with, Topaz Financial. He said they didn't work with them, and if I didn't pay my bill in full with Discover he "would see you got the beating of a lifetime." I told him "Be sure you hang on that tape recording, I'd love to use it in court, meantime, you can go to hell." Then I hung up.. Isn't there laws against that sort of behavior and threats?
