I am being pursued by Procollect of Dallas, Texas regarding a non-payment on an apartment lease that was coordinated by my previous employer. The employer paid via credit card when we moved in but refused to pay the last months rent. We were living in Midland, Tx at the time but are now in Oklahoma City, OK

Procollect has called a few times and has reported this collection item to the credit bureaus.

This has seriously affected our credit score.

What action, if any, should I take?

Terry (Oklahoma City, Ok)

Are you in a position to offer payment at this time? If you are, you should contact Procollect and make an offer. They may be willing to mark the item Paid in Full if you are able to make a substantial payment toward this debt. Just be sure that any arrangement you make, you insist that they give it to you in writing.

The only problem is probably pride. We feel that we are being held responsible for the debts of our previous employer.
