AIP threatening that they are coming after me for stealing

Defaulting on a payday loan is a civil offense, not criminal, so no, they can't arrest you. These companies will threaten anything to try to get you to pay. What state do you live in? From this site, you can do a google search for Pollyandsay's blog. Once there, under "Corporations search by state," you can see if this company is licensed in your state. If they are not licensed in your state, you only need to pay the principal back. Also, you have the upper hand if they are not licensed. You tell them what you can afford to pay and when you'll pay it. They can't take you to court if they're not licensed to do business with you in the first place. In this blog, there is also a template letter to send to PDL companies. You can send this to the PDL companies. You can also send them a cease and desist letter, telling them they cannot contact you by phone, that they have to do it either by e-mail or the US Postal Service.
Also, if you do a google search under "AIP," you will find many forums where people tell their experiences with this company.
Good luck, and let us know how you're doing. But don't worry, they cannot have you arrested or any of the many other things they will threaten to do.

THANK YOU! I live in florida. I also just found out that they are calling my old job and harassing them even though they were told i do not work there anymore.

Make yourself available in front of the company in case you don't want your colleagues to be called. You can tell your friends to file complaints with the attorney general because of the invalid calls to them.
What state are you in? You need to check the laws on closing the account if it has been the right decision by you. Most state laws are in favor of the consumers but you need to be confirmed about your move taken.

I am in FLORIDA. I am no worried about them calling the old job since they are pretty laid back, but it is to the point that they are now just harassing to them. I have tried looking up FLorida but I cant seem to find anything. Should I go to the bank and find out if it was the right thing to do??

First off, I looked AIP up, and they are not licensed in your state. Also, rollovers are NOT PERMITTED in Florida. So that's two counts against them. Here are sites to go to regarding your state's laws:
www.consumerlaw.org/action
www.paydayloanlaws.com.
You can use the template PDL letter found in Pollyandsay's blog and insert your state's laws, especially the ones they are breaking (not being licensed in your state and not permitting rollovers), where appropriate. You should also contact your attorney general (you can probably do it via e-mail) and report this company. Also, when you send your template letter to AIP, let them know that you are reporting this to the AG's office and asking them to investigate AIP's illegal lending practices. Subtract the total amount you have paid in their so-called "fees", etc. from what you originally borrowed. Demand a refund for that amount and for the account to be marked "paid in full." (you may or may not get a refund, but definitely make sure they at least mark it paid in full). I would also put in this letter somewhere that you do not authorize them to call your employer, your work or any of your references and that they may only contact you via e-mail or the US Postal Service. Good luck.

Thank you. I appreciate all the info and help I can get. I really appreciate it. One more question, How would I find out if me closing my bank acct had an effect or what laws were broken? Cause that is the last thing I intended to do. I am still scared..

If you have a valid reason to close your account, and you have, you have no problem. These people are going to have to work with you to get paid and that's all there is to it!

You are safe after closing the account in Florida. There is nothing that goes against you. If asked, you have valid reasons of closing the account because there are many unjustified stories about the company and you were not comfortable about your account info with them. You are willing to pay the outstanding balance probably, through a money order or western union etc.

See the sad part of all this is that I have tried to say that I am more than willing to pay what I can and send it in. NO CAN DO! That is what they say. They need my acct info and will not accept money order or western union and they usually tell me I have 2-3 months to pay it.So they need say $150 every other week. I will NOT ever again do a payday loan OR give out my acct info.
I also did that after only paying $90 on a $200 loan. This, how
I also did that after only paying $90 on a $200 loan. This, however, was through a company that was not licensed in my state. They didn't have my new phone number, but they plagued me with very nasty e-mails, stating that I broke the contract by closing my account and that was check fraud, which is a criminal offense (it's not) punishable by imprisonment, that they had lent to me in good faith, and that they would retrieve their money one way or another. I was scared, but I followed the advice of people on these forums and sent a PDL template letter, listing what laws THEY had broken and that I would only be paying the principal, as I was able. I also told them that I had reported them to my attorney general's office and asked them to investigate their illegal lending practices. I received a much tamer e-mail after that, asking me to call them to discuss payment options on the principal that were agreeable to both of us. They stated they were "willing" to drop any fees as they tried to "please" their customers and were sorry I was not happy with their service. You really have to be aggressive with these people.
Check with your bank about what happens if someone tries to put a debit through once the account is closed. If, like my bank, the account isn't officially closed for 30 days, they may allow that payment to go through (something my bank did). If your account isn't officially closed, it would be cheaper to put a stop payment, just in case AIP tries to put it through. I'm pretty sure if AIP doesn't try to put it through, though, they don't charge you for the stop payment.
If you need any more help, I'd be glad to help. Let me know.
