Should we we reply to allied or ignore the call

Asked for my husband, would not give me any info except it was personal. Called again, my husband took the phone,they asked for last 4 digits of ssn. we refused. informed we owed Heilig-Meyers $700+dollars. we havnt bought anything from this co.asked us to fax a letter stating we did not owe this and we would not receive any more calls. gave us a fax no. to reply

Welcome to the Community :D I would also send them a debt validation letter,since you don't owe this, they will have to proove you do. Keep copies of everything. Also, you can send a cease and desist letter to only contact you by mail,so they won't be calling continually. Keep after them to get this taken care of,also check your credit report to see if they have reported it. Good Luck!...Karen

The laws put in the fdcpa mention that the collection agency should send the debt in writing within five business days of the first phone call.
Since Allied is collecting for the debt you have, they should have the info in their system. You don't need to give out your SSN# to confirm. If you don't receive anything in your mail, send a debt validation letter to their mailing address. Make sure that you do this through certified mail with return receipt requested. You must have enough proof that you were taking care of the matter rather than avoiding it and the company failed to give you the info if they are using wrong collection tactics.
