I'm not sure what you are talking about-warrant for debt? If you could explain a little more. But I do know, you should always show up for court. It only makes it worse if you don't, and they will file a judgement in your absence. If you show up you can make payment arrangements, and if you have a hardship, file that before you go to court. Good Luck, keep us posted...Karen

Could be possible, but need to know more information... Did a judge actually issue a warrant for your return? If you miss an important court date, it could happen.
-- Information on a body writ (Illinois)--
Suppose I have a judgment against you, but I don't know where you work or what assets you own that I can take to satisfy the judgment.
Then I can file a citation to discover assets. I would have a sheriff serve you with a summons to appear in court. On the court date, you would have to tell me under oath where you work and what other assets you have that I can take.
If you don't show up to answer my questions, then I serve you with a Rule to Show Cause. And basically, this is the judge telling you to come into his court room and give him a good reason why you didn't show up the first time.
If you don't show up on my Rule, to the second court date, the judge will sign a writ for body attachment, and send it to the sheriff to put a warrant out for your arrest. In this case you're not being arrested for owing money, but rather for being in contempt of court and not showing up when a judge ordered you to.

Exactly what is this regarding? Were you already scheduled for a court date and just not go?

The Warrant for Debt is common in VA and possible in Massachusetts as well. It is just a fancy name for a summons, but usually you go to the court in order to set a different court date for a hearing. You can always try calling the clerk of the court to see if you can file a response (answer) to the warrant in debt. If you do call, let me know what they said. Also try a local aid organization. Schools sometimes have law organizations that can provide free help as well.
