I think that some banks will tell you with them it will cause the account to reopen if it is within a few weeks of closing the account. You need to revoke your ACH authorization with the internet pdls. Also, you need to make arrangements with the storefronts because they are licensed and will take you to court for judgement. Now my bank account did not reopen when they tried to debit and the account was closed. Each bank has a different policy. I would check with them if I were you.

Ok - thanks. I guess the best thing to do is just flat out tell them what's going on and let them figure out the best course of action.

I went to my bank and explained everything to them and they were very helpful. I have also read several other posts from here that once you explain to the bank your situation they work with you to get it closed.

Also if you are not in a position to close your account (ex; direct deposit) my bank placed a hard hold for all debits on my account. I was working two jobs and the part-time job, I couldn't get the direct deposit switched over in time so I couldn't close the account. The branch manager put a hold on my account blocking all debits and to only allow credits. When I needed to get access to the funds that were in the blocked account I just went to the branch manager and she would lift the hold long enough for me to transfer the money and then put the hold right back on. I know this is probably not an option at every bank, but if you were in the same position as I was with the direct deposit..it can be something you could ask about. I also made sure I sent out letters revoking authorization to the account before my due dates were even supposed to hit, some of my PDL's acknowledged the letters and some did not.
