Okay, here's my story . . . . About 4 months ago I had some unauthorized debits on my account. I went into my local branch and talked to a banker. I also wanted to stop the ipdl's from taking more money. I had some pending transactions so I was told I couldn't just close my account with them. He had me call the 800 number and report the unauthorized debits. They changed by account number, but told me that it would only stop card purchases and paper checks. Since my unauthorized debits weren't either of those, and I wanted to stop the ipdl's I chose to just open a whole new bank account with them. We transferred all my money over to the new accounts and I thought i'd be good to go . . . . . So more unauthorized debits happened on my "bad" account, as well as the ipdl's (which had been told not to debit my account)and since there was no money in that account and I'd had them remove my overdraft protection they all bounced and I had over 30 overdraft fees in a 2 week period of time.
But I called the nice banker at my local branch and he credited all the overdraft fees, bringing my bad account down to 0. He closed the bad account for me. I thought Yeah! That's the end of that!
Nope! Wells Fargo's Risk Management group saw all those overdraft fees that had been credited in such a short period of time and without even asking the banker why froze my good account! Now I don't carry cash, I was using my debit card for everything I bought. I found this out on a friday night when I went to buy groceries. I went straight down to the branch, got there just minutes before they closed. I was told that my account was frozen and would be closed because of "account abuse". I told them I was only doing exactly what they had told me to do and that those charges that had caused my account to be overdrawn were not authorized charges. They didn't care! I was incredibly lucky that the banker I'd been working with was there and went offline and withdrew my money from my frozen account. Otherwise it would've been over a month until I got MY MONEY back!
To top it off I've now been reported to chexsystems for "account abuse" and had a very hard time opening a new checking account. I had to do a ton of research and find a bank that uses credit reports to verify identity instead of using chexsystems. BTW, this stays on my report for 5 years!
I WILL NEVER AGAIN USE WELLS FARGO FOR ANYTHING EVER!
Be very careful . . . . Their advice can get you into more trouble then before! Their branch manager have little say when risk management steps in. I did nothing wrong and no one would even listen to my story. BEWARE!

OMG! you have me terrified. I don't want them messing with my good account, so they didn't give you your money back!? That is crazy especially since the bank manager told you it was ok and credited you back. I think to be on the safe side I will hold off on having my check direct deposited so that nothing like thta happens to me. I am worried because that sounds identical to my situation. I could not close the account until the pending authorizations debited out, then I had a bunch of overdraft charges that had to be credited, right now I am just waiting for the account to zero out. i think I will give them a call and see what is taking so long.

It took them over a month to finally close my account. I was super lucky that I'd been into the branch so often because of my situation that they knew me there and knew that my money was good. So they went offline and just gave me my money. If they had not known me I'd have been totally screwed for over a month, with no access whatsoever to my money.
My advice to you would be to hightail it to another bank, preferably one that doesn't use chexsystems, and open new accounts. The reason I say to find one that doesn't use chexsystems is that bank usually do "sweeps" of their new account every month or so and if a chexsystems report comes up from another bank, your new account at a different bank will be closed too! If you want me to help you find some good bank options let me know. I've done a ton of research into this and can help find a bank that doesn't use chexsystems.

We had our mortgage with Wells Fargo and they are nothing more than jerks! When we hit hard times and called to make arrangements, we were told NO. That the payment was due on the 1st and if they didn't have it then, they would start foreclosure proceedings. They are ruthless and were very hard to get our escrow money out of when we refinaced the house with another mortgage company. They will call and harass if you are 1 day late. But that was my experience with them.

My parents also had a mortgage with them. They lied and said it wasn't a ARM when it was, and then when my parents went to refiance with another company a couple months later Wells Fargo went so far as to call the company my parents were refinancing with and told them my parents weren't interested in refinancing anymore! Luckily they told my parents what Wells Fargo said, and my parents filed a complaint against them.

My cousin had a auto loan with them last year. She was current on her payments until August 06, when she was laid off from her job of 6 years, due to the company closing. She fell behind on her Aug. payments and paid it in Sept. Then of course, she was behind Sept. and then Oct., on Nov.9th, they came and repossed her car b/c she was 2 months behind. She tried to work out arrangements with them and I don't guess they liked them, so now she is carless with a 7 month old and 2 year old..
I should mention that is my opinion only . . . . .
