Okay so I get a call from Route 66. Finally. I have been trying to contact them for forever. Anyway, I took down the number he was calling from for my records a Michael.

Anyway, he says the pay off for my $200 loan is $350...ummmm I think not that is almost twice the loan amount. So I ask for his fax number, he says I have to call customer service to get the fax number. I say ok and he gives me 1-877-564-7739.

I tell him that I will not be using the same account because it had to be closed but I would gladly pay viz money order or money gram or Western Union, as long as there is a way to gaurantee and verify my payment without using my checking account I was willing. He starts stammering saying they only do ACH debits because they had problems with money not being available...I said "with a money order the money is gauranteed because the patron already paid the face value amount on the money order." He said they only do ACH debits. He then says okay, you will pay $150 on the 24th correct. I say NO, I need more information and I will be calling customer service. Thank you sir. And I hung up. I just know they are going to give me a hard time!

Try calling 1-800-564-7738, that is their real customer service number. 1-800-564-7739 is their "collections" number . . . . And they don't play ball. They could care less if they are breaking laws. Their employees are uneducated and don't care. I don't think anyone has been successful in getting their account marked PIF, they only succeed in being left alone . . . . If I'm wrong, please someone correct me. I'd love to know that someone got through to these people!

Creditro Schmedator -

do not, under any circumstances, give these people your bank account info, and don't send money by Western Union. Look into your state's PDL laws to see if they are even legal in your state, what the interest rate cap is set at, and calculate what you've paid them from there. If you have overpaid them already, ignore their calls and e-mails, and they will eventually give up. If you really want to shake them up, the next time they call, tell them that you have already overpaid them according to your state laws, they are not licensed to operate in your state (make sure you check first, but they don't appear to be licensed in too many states), and that you are filing a complaint with your state Attorney General and they will be hearing from them shortly.

They will most likely go away after that. If they continue to call, find a way to block their calls, even if it means going to the payroll department and your supervisor at work and telling them that this company is harrassing you by phone, and that you do not want to receive calls from them at work - you should be able to stop them.

Hang in there - they will eventually give up and go away, because they know that they don't have a leg to stand on, legally. They CANNOT do the following, even though they threaten to:

-arrest you
-garnish your wages
-take your house or property

what they CAN (and will) do, in an attempt to get your money:

-harrass you at work, several times a day
-harrass you at home, several times a day
-harrass your supervisor and co-workers
-send threatening e-mails from their "fraud" or "investigations" team
-claim you are breaking laws by not paying them
-make empty threats (jail, wage garnishment, etc.)

Be strong, check out your state PDL laws, and go into your fight with them well-armed with information.

drowingindebt- I am so sorry to hear they are doing that to you. Can you call your bank to find out about closing the account. You have paid entirely too much to these people!!! I already know they are illegal in my state and I certainly will pay what I owe, but not any outrageous charges that are illegal as well as unfair. I will not be giving them my new account information and my old account should be closing soon. Thank you for the other number I will use it.
