Clean up credit report
Date: Sun, 11/19/2006 - 16:52
I want to sign up for credit counseling but want to do it with a reputable and honest company who will have my best interest at heart. I have heard horror stories of companies that just collect money from you and not help with the credit issues. Aside from debt consolidation care, has anyone had any great experiences with another company? I really need a good referral.
Also, is it illegal to negotiate with a creditor to have them report the account as being "PAID AS AGREED" after a debt has been paid to them?
Thank you.

It's good that your debts are still with the original creditors
It's good that your debts are still with the original creditors and you won't have to deal with outside collection agencies. Collection entries lower the credit scores severely. They are considered as R9 ratings.
You need to contact your creditors and inform about paying the debts. They will do some kind of arrangements suitable to your situation. After the debts are paid off and reported with the bureaus, your credit will take a good turn.
Credit bureaus will report "Paid as Agreed" in your file if you have negotiated for a lower amount. This will lower the credit ratings unless you negotiate for a better reporting.
