If they try to threaten you with fraud charges and arrest, they are lying to you and don't fall for it. You have NOT committed any crime and will not go to jail.

I would think you could use this template letter in your case, also, and insert the laws for your state and let them know that, based on your state laws, you are only paying the remainder of the principal back.
