I received a summons in august and the court date is on friday december the 8th. The only thing about that is they sent the summons to my grandmothers address which use to be my old address and I did not get the summons until I went to my grandmothers house for the holiday. I have not lived at my grandmothers house in the last 3 years, what should I do, should I show up in court or call the collector, thanks
How was the summons delivered to the address? I would call the
How was the summons delivered to the address? I would call the court clerks office to see if the date is still scheduled.
You need to make every effort to show up to the hearing. Not showing up will make the judge rule in favor of the collector.
Who is this for, by the way? Have you asked for validation. Once you call the clerks office to check on the validity you can request to have it postponed, stating that you didn't live there, and only got it because you visited for the holidays. This will give you some time to prepare.
Please let us know on the outcome, or if we can be of any more help.
