I applied for a Sears card a little over 5 years ago and sinse then the balance has went up and down( mostly up).... Anyway after missing payments due to lose of employment I enrolled into a credit counseling program that was suppose to help me consolidate my bills into one low monthly payment. I recently missed about 4 months of payments due to a change in employment and living arrangement... Since I havent been able to pay Sears has sent the account to I believe two different collection agaency. The balance is a little under
$1800, can my wages be garnished
?

You usually don't sign a wage assignment to get a credit card; so they won't be taking any wages without a court order.

If they wanted to, they could file a suit and get a judgment; then they could get a wagee garnishment order.

But usually it takes them a while to get that involved... they don't tend to jump the gun after only 4 months. They will probably send it to a few collection agencies, then charge it off. They will probably sell it before they sue you. If anyone sues you, it will probably be a junk debt buyer that buys it from Sears, like LVNV Funding. That is probably a year away at least.

If you have settled a bit with your new living arrangements and employment, you should definitely try to work something out with them before it gets that far.
