I am a single mom of 2 kids ages 10 and 5. I have been single for 5 years. I work 80 hours a week and gross $720. I have monthly bills of daycare, car payment, insurance, food, clothing, and emergency. I have many bills to pay. I am not sure right now how much is owed, last time I did add it all up it was close to $8,000.00. I want to get all of these bills paid with in one year if possible and start on a clean slate. I am tired of having high interest rates, being turned down on a purchase, or low credit score. What can I do? Is filing bankruptcy the way to go or can I get on a budget, pay the bills, and save money too. I am not on a budget at all. I am not sure how to even start with one. I need to, I know, i need the assistance to accomplish it.

Thanks,
Jill

You will know your options after discussing with a counselor. He will analyze how much you can pay each month and frame the plan accordingly. All bills can be combined under one monthly payment and he will negotiate with your creditors for a lower interest rate. You will also save some money in late fees and other charges.

credit counseling is a must before filing bankruptcy. A means test will be conducted to find out if the person is eligible to qualify in bankruptcy. If the payments can be done through credit counseling, bankruptcy is not the option for those people. Take the advice of a debt counselor. He will assist in your budgeting and you will find an easier way of paying the debts.

Welcome to the Forums Jill :D Also, have a look at this link on the Do it Yourself section at http://www.debtconsolidationcare.com/diy/ It has alot of info and calculators to help you figure out how much you owe. Discuss all these options with your credit counselor, they can help you decide which route to go. Good Luck...Karen
