Thanks Brown Sugar!1 Still don't know what they want or who they are  My oldest son who is on disability has creditors calling every now and then on an old debt. I keep sending debt validation letters and telling them he is on permanenet disability, it's an old debt, etc., they don't give up!..Karen

I have been getting this number on my answering machine too. I called them and they won't tell me what there company is about unless I tell them who I am. I told her I was not willing to give out any information until I knew what it was about and she said fine, have a nice day then.
I think it could be for a balance I owe for shutting off a cell phone - but if it is Cingular should have given me forwarning - I told them I would pay it off in 3 payments.
???

Cingular might be who it is - I had an account with them, owed them some money and paid what they said I owed (they offered me a reduction if I'd pay it right then, which I took them up on) and now I'm getting calls from this 3828 number. So it sort of smells like Cingular...
Its Cingular
Received call from this number also..caller id is 636-925-5300 and asking for a relative that i know owes cingular...this is definately cingular
800 530-3828 Phone Calls
I did a search on the Better Business Bureau, and this is a bill collector located in Georgia that Cingular must have sold delinquent or uncollected debts to. Go to BBB.com enter the phone number & read their negative reports. With the bills and phone calls, Cingular must have spent hundreds of dollars to collect a unresolved $12.50 on a closing bill when my son closed his account more than a year ago. The law regarding collection companies states they cannot fail to identify themselves. File a complaint. You can send them a letter, or call them and demand they remove your phone number from their calling list. If they do not within 24 hours, you can report them. The lady on the phone was rude, rude. Cingular must be in a bad financial spot, if they have to resort to this!

Not entirely true. The collection agency is likely paid on a contingency basis (pay for performance). In some cases, collection fees can be added to the total amount (postage, phone calls, etc...). The collection agency needs to produce in at least two sectors:
Total dollar amount collected
Total number of successfully collected accounts
So while no collector will really care about a $13 debt, the company still has a job to do. Regardless of the dollar amount, they still need to follow all applicable laws, and be held responsible should they break any.

Again, not necessarily true. Businesses have vested interest in collecting overdue accounts. By the nature of technology and the sheer number of accounts that Cingular has, any account can end up in collections, even if it's less than dinner for 4 at KFC.
