Can Anyone help me with this problem? My truck broke down a few months ago and a local company here went ahead and towed it to their shop and then after speaking with one of the owners he told me it would be 600 dollars. I said ok, but then he called me about 4 days later saying that he got the parts, fixed my truck and it is not 600 dollars but 1600 dollars. I was floored when he said this and then I asked him to please explain why it was so much. He apologised for the increase but then went to explain as to why he had to charge me for 4everything. Of course this was all word of mouth and I never did recieve a written estimate from them. I am trying to pay them off but it is hard since I barely get by as it is? What can I do? how can I get my truck back? Help Please!

Did you sign anything with this company. I would check with a Consumer Proctection agency in your state. Ususally this office is in the AG's office. I think you would only be responsible for the $600 because that is all you authorized. He was supposed to contact you before completing anything that would cost more. I was in a similar situation, but the mechanic called me first before he touched my car.
