I sent a validation letter to a C/A. Do they have 30 days to validate the debt?

Do I have 30 days to dispute a debt from the time I receive communication from a debt collector?

Johnny, your second point is right. CAs are not forced by laws to validate the debt within 30 days after receiving your letter. They can take as long at 90 days for providing you the info. But, if you are not getting a response from the CA and they have put a negative item in your credit report, you should be able to dispute it with the CRA. They will investigate and updated the records after your dispute is found correct.
You, as a consumer are within the 30 days catch. If you don't dispute a debt with wrong info, the debt becomes valid after that period.

i have to disgreee with u on the 30 day catch.. a debt does not become valid after that period..section 809(c) of teh fdcpa states that a consumers failure to dispute the validity of a debt under this section may not be interpreted by a court as admission of liability.. but i have to agree that it is always wise to have it validated in the 30 day period just to avoid any possible legalities., they will still have to prove in a court of law that they leaglly own ur debt and that u owe it befoer any judge wil just hand out a judgment..i just think its better to have them prove it to u before it gets to the point of goin to court
