is a debt consolidation loan a good idea?

I am 18 years old and of course like a lot of people do I got credit cards. They are way overdue because I was without a job for a few months and at my new job I am not getting enough hours to pay them back. I was thinking about getting an unsecured debt consolidation loan, but for the most part I don't have enough debt to apply for one. At 18 1300 dollars in debt is a lot and could ruin my credit forever. Is this loan a good idea and if so where can I get one with my amount of debt?

First off welcome to the forums. A debt counselor will contact you and discuss your financial situation with you further. Here is my own personal suggestion and you can do with it what you want. I would try and find another job, either one with more hours or one to supplement the job you already have. If you are trying to pay off the 1300 and you work an extra job it shouldn't take you too long. But, above all resist the urge to use those cards! And when you make your payments, always pay a little extra if you can. If you have more than one, get rid of all but one! These are just suggestions from me and ones that I gave my own daughter when she was your age.
